Just like you can’t build a house on a beach, you can’t create a life purpose inspired business, without a proper foundation. Building on a weak, unstable or shifting surface means that it ‘s only a matter of time before the whole thing comes crashing down…
A business is something very real, very tangible and very rooted in the physical world. A business involves having systems and processes in place to deal with clients, inventory, money and paper trails. To be in a position to get all of that set up you must have the resources and be in a space, mentally and physically that supports you.
When I talk about resources I am especially referring to your energy level, since many aspiring purpose entrepreneurs are running on fumes, or a very low gas tank.
Today I want to share the first 3 of the 7 Pillars I have used to build a solid foundation for my business and life, since when you’re a purpose entrepreneur there is no real separation between the two of them.
Pillar 1: Eating
We all know the saying “garbage in – garbage out” and it also goes for how you feed yourself. Eating foods with lots of bulk but few nutrients won’t give you the energy you need to stay energized and focus.
Complicated diets have never appealed to me and being on a diet is often associated with depriving yourself and setting yourself up for potential binging and failure down the road.
Instead take a common sense approach to your food intake and eat nutrient dense foods.
Nutrient dense foods have lots of nutrients per unit of food compared to nutrient sparse foods. Eating foods as close to their natural state as possible and having a nice mix of greens, veggies, quality proteins, nuts, seeds and whole grains usually does the trick. Eating sufficient proteins and good fats usually tame sweet cravings that can wreck havoc in an otherwise healthy diet.
Pillar 2: Drinking
You may not pay much attention to your intake of liquids during a day, but your
energy level and intake of hydrating fluids are closely connected. All drinks are not created equally, some are actually dehydrating, and we call those beverages.
All your body really needs when it comes to drinks is water, since we are more than 50% water. Our cells thirst for water and need it to function properly.
Fill up a large carafe with water a couple of times a day and make sure it is finished by the end of the day. Keep sipping all day long to stay clear and focused!
And don’t forget to compensate at a 1:1 ratio for any dehydrating beverages like coffee or tea. That means for each cup of coffee you drink an extra cup of water.
Pillar 3: Supplementing
It would be nice if we could get all of our required nutrients from our diet, but unfortunately that is difficult. I like a simple approach to supplementation and when we take our pills, powders and liquids on most days we’re likely to fill any nutrient gaps.
I take and recommend a daily green drink with powdered vitamin C, a liquid multi-vitamin and pro-biotics for a healthy gut flora. To get those essential fatty acids and vitamin D, take fish oil in the summer and cod liver oil in the winter. Most ladies should also take a calcium supplement at bedtime to ensure strong bones.
Now take inventory on how you are doing with the quality of your foods, the quantity of your water intake, and your supplementation. I will share 4 more Pillars on which to build a strong foundation for your life and business soon, until then go live life to your full potential!
