This article was based off this quote:

"Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself."

- Rumi

When I was younger, I took it upon myself to try and solve other people’s problems, most of the time, “problems” did not involve me. I even took it to the extent of worrying about people across the globe and how they lived their lives and how I could help them. Or well, I was thinking of ways to help them, even though I knew it wouldn’t actually be possible at that moment.

See, what I was trying to do was save the world, and save everyone in it. Most of the time, this feeling of “helping people” came around my bedtime, so my mum used to say “Rome wasn’t built in a day and that if I wanted to help people, I could think about it tomorrow”. She probably just said that so I would go to bed and I did, only to wake up the next day and go back to my normal routines.

When I was slightly older, there were times when I came home and talked to my mum about the people in my school and how I needed to help them become “better”. Bear in mind that I wasn’t aware of what I meant by “better”. Anyways, being the wise mother she is, she told me I couldn’t force people to change, the only person I can change is myself.

Now, when I came across this quote, something, somewhere made sense to me. Now, for almost two years, I’ve been working with ET Ideas ( www.et-ideas.com or you can check them out on Facebook here www.facebook.com/ETIdeasGroup ) to accomplish what my Heart wants. One of the things I have learned is the fact that change comes from within you. You can be triggered by someone else to change but only you can take the steps and necessary actions to evoke the change you want within you.

Believe me, I have tried to “change” people subtly and not so subtly but it doesn’t work. The only person so far I have managed to change is myself.

After a while, I realised, there was no point in asking people to change if I wasn’t that person myself. How could I have been an example to others if I wasn’t who I told my friends to be? So what you can do is start with yourself, after all, the only person you can help is yourself. And if you start listening to your Heart and achieving the stuff that you want, you would automatically attract to you (that’s the Law of Vibration and Attraction and many other laws at work – it’s a long story. You can though, check out that book about that here www.ascendancepro.com ) people that would want to work on their goals to. This way, you may not be able to force a person to change, but you can be the “trigger” for their change, the trigger I mentioned earlier.

The little experience and awareness I have has taught me that if I want my friends to follow their Hearts and do their Hearts’ bidding, I must first follow my Heart and achieve my goals in order for them “change”. And even then, I have realised, I would waste a lot of energy helping every single person I meet, especially those that do not want to change, after all, I can’t force anybody.

What I can do however, is change myself and my perception of the world, learn the lessons I am supposed to learn and maybe without me even realising, I would have helped a few people. I suppose it is quality over quantity, right?

One thing I am sure about though, I can change myself, for the better, using my willpower and by listening to my Heart!
