Every aspect of our current life is a consequence of our deeds from our past life: the people we encounter, the things we are instinctively drawn to, and so on are the result of our intents and actions from that life.
In the present life, you experience the results of past life karma in the form of ‘merit’ karma (good deeds and intents) and ‘demerit’ karma (bad deeds and intents). Similar to the saying, “as you sow, so shall you reap”, whatever you had sown in your past life will germinate and grow in this very life. Everything that we encounter in this life is our design and projection: nobody else in this world is responsible for our pain, suffering, misery, and happiness.
The fortune or luck that you seem to encounter is the precise law of nature, this is in fact due to the “merit” karma you have sown in your previous life. Thus, if you find yourself winning a prize or a lottery or being promoted to a well-paid job this is all due to the merit karma you have sown in your past life. Even your ability and appearance that is physical and mental is also a direct result of your intentions and actions from your previous life.
The cyclical nature of your life: everyone experiences ‘ups’ and ‘downs’. The precise laws of nature dictate that although you may have performed more merit karma than demerit karma, for each bad deed you will have to suffer its consequences at the right time separately and those are not subtracted from the good deeds! Hence, this is precisely why everyone’s life is never continuously good or incessantly bad.
In entirety, your deeds and the circumstances that you encounter throughout your life are echoes and evidence of your past life. This has been the case for infinite lives: we are and always have been entirely accountable and responsible — wholly and solely for the life and circumstances, we live in today.
To have a good next life you need to have an intent not to hurt any living being by thought, speech, or deed. Thus, you will reap merit karmas and have a fortunate, lucky, and happy life. However, this will not stop the endless cycle of birth and rebirth. To become free from this cycle of birth and death, you need to stop binding karmas — good or bad and thus attain Moksha — liberation. Liberation can be attained by knowing who you are. Self-realization can only be achieved from an Enlightened Being.
As said by Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan:
“Once you come into the nature of the Self, no new karma will be bound. This happens when the Gnani Purush makes you aware of your true Self. After that, new karmas do not bind and old karmas continue to discharge. When all the karmas have discharged with equanimity, you will attain final liberation.”

Ambalal M. Patel was a civil contractor by profession. In June 1958, spontaneous Self-Realization occurred within Ambalal M. Patel. From this point on, Ambalal became a Gnani Purush, and the Lord that manifested within him became known as Dada Bhagwan. A Gnani Purush is One who has realized the Self and is able to help others do the same. Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan used to go from town to town and country-to-country to give satsang (spiritual discourse) and impart the knowledge of the Self, as well as knowledge of harmonious worldly interactions to everyone who came to meet him. This spiritual science, known as Akram Vignan, is the step-less path to Self-realization.
