Lord Krishna has said:
“If one becomes Vitraag (a detached enlightened person), he will become fearless. When detachment (Vitraagata) is established, one becomes fearless.”
Fear will continue as long as attachment and hatred exist. When the state of detachment is not there, fear abounds continuously, and this fear causes further attachment and hatred. Therefore, if you want to attain Moksha and become free, become a Vitraag (totally free from attachment) and be fearless (totally free from fear).
How do you free yourself from fear and attachment?
Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan, the enlightened being says,
“All fears leave after Self-realization. The concern, that used to terrify you, goes away after Self-realization.
To become fearless, one has to live with a Gnani Purush (the Enlightened One) for at least two to four months. Once a person lives in the vicinity and the company of Gnani Purush, all fear leaves, because fear is nothing but a lack of understanding. By staying with Gnani, one can find out one’s own mistakes (and get free), whereas when one stays away from the Gnani, one gets trapped in puzzles.”
The Enlightened One explains:
With the grace of Gnani Purush, when one attains Akram Gnan (the step-less path to Self-realization), the wrong belief of ‘really I am John (please insert your name here)’ leaves; and it is replaced with the right belief of, ‘I am a pure Soul.’ This state of the Self (as the pure Soul) is the state of total fearlessness.
After attaining this knowledge of the Self (Self-Realization), we attain awareness of the Soul. However, the experience of the pure Soul is unclear and indistinct. Thereafter, our effort to attain a clear and distinct experience of the pure Soul/Self begins. By staying with Gnani, one learns how to remain in the awareness of the Self (being the pure Soul), with the help of five principles (that sustain the liberated state attained through Akram Vignan), in all worldly situations that may provoke fear.
Here, one becomes aware of the source and cause of fear, where and how it arises, to whom it is happening, and how one can remain unaffected and separate from the one who is experiencing fear. Thus one remains fearless!
How can there be any fear of One, whom no force in the Universe can touch or hurt?
After Self-realization, one is not affected by fear of any kind because it is happening to John, the relative self (the reader should substitute his name instead of John).
Why should there be any fear of the Self, the Soul?…
The Soul can never be robbed or hurt. The fear of getting robbed happens to John, the one who has the pocket that carries the money. Are you, the Soul, the owner of the pocket?
So (after Self-realization), when one applies the understanding from the real perspective of, ‘I am pure Soul’ one remains fearless. As long as the belief ‘I am John’ remains, fear also remains. But with ‘I am pure Soul’, the fear vanishes. And whatever fear arises in John is in order (Vyavasthit, scientific circumstantial evidence) and that is precise and just.
One has filled the stock of fear in the relative self (in past life)
But you, the pure Soul (our real Self), would not have any fear!
If a policeman comes, he will arrest John. He does not know the Soul, so how can he arrest You, the pure Soul? Even if they hang you, it is the non-self matter that is being strangulated. The Soul has never been strangulated, that is who You are!
Thus, in every way, worldly life affects ‘John’, and the Self is so exquisitely separate that it remains unaffected and separate by anything that happens to John. With this awakened awareness, fear vanishes.
When you feel fear and the right vision-awakened awareness of, ‘I am pure Soul’ does not prevail..
the Enlightened One is with us all the time, isn’t He?… Even with this understanding, know that nothing can happen to you. No power in this Universe can hurt You. The one who is going to be hurt and affected is not You, and if it happens, so be it. You remain unaffected. The effect that happens is to the relative self (John), and You (the Soul) are indeed separate and unaffected. With this understanding and applied awareness there remains no effect or suffering.
When one becomes Vitraag (free from all attachments), one becomes God!
One who does not have abhorrence when someone insults him or does not have attachment when someone respects him, then he is a God. When one becomes free from duality, he is called God.
All this (insult, respect, etc.) is relative. To feel the effect of that which is relative is a sign of terrible weakness. Nothing that happens around you should touch You. When can one say that a person is Vitraag (absolutely free from attachment and abhorrence)? When one does not feel fear of anything in this world one can say He is indeed a Vitraag. What is the essence of being a Vitraag? Fearlessness!
Those who’ve received the Akram Gnan (Self-realization) are preparing to become Vitraag
Through Akram Gnan, Gnani Purush has explained many different kinds of divine keys, which when applied, will make one remain fearless in worldly life. Also, after receiving Self-Realization from Akram Gnani, one becomes Vitdvesh (without hatred).
And their attachment slowly moves away from the worldly life and enters here — for the Gnani and His followers. But this attachment is called ‘Prashasta raag’ — one that leads to liberation (ultimate freedom). So, it is a beneficial attachment. What is the fruit of that Prashasta raag? The fruit of this attachment will verily yield the Vitraag by itself. Nothing else needs to be done. If we sow a grain of corn, water it, we do everything necessary then will an ear of corn grow by itself or we will have to make it? This is the only raag that can make one a Vitraag!

Ambalal M. Patel was a civil contractor by profession. In June 1958, spontaneous Self-Realization occurred within Ambalal M. Patel. From this point on, Ambalal became a Gnani Purush, and the Lord that manifested within him became known as Dada Bhagwan. A Gnani Purush is One who has realized the Self and is able to help others do the same. Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan used to go from town to town and country-to-country to give satsang (spiritual discourse) and impart the knowledge of the Self, as well as knowledge of harmonious worldly interactions to everyone who came to meet him. This spiritual science, known as Akram Vignan, is the step-less path to Self-realization.
