People have often used the analogy that the human body is like a car. It needs the correct grade fuel to enable it to work at its best, it needs exercising on a reasonably frequent basis, and a check up once in a while. Whilst we all know what we should do in terms of diet and exercise, few of us act in accordance with that knowledge. Not only that, we tend to almost completely ignore our "wiring", and this is just as important, if not more so, than the more visible outer coating of the human body. A car that has nothing underneath the hood may be very sleek to view, but is of no use for any of its intended purposes! Similarly we all know the domino effect caused when a fuse is blown.

What can we do to service our wiring and our fuses? What indeed constitutes the inner workings of the human body? Over the years science continually reveals more about the complex wiring within our amazing bodies. Thanks to research in the area of psycho neuro immunology (PNI) we now have a greater idea how every single cell in our body communicates with our brain in a two way flow of hormones and neuro-transmitters. Should you stub your toe a message is sent via this matrix to your brain, and this in turn directs your body's natural opiates to the area in which it is needed. Your body is a very intelligent self-healing organism. If you cut yourself, your body knows how to heal itself.

We all know that the human body has an immune system and most of us are aware of certain herbs, vitamins or pills which we are designed to boost this functioning. Some of us take them, others don't. Very few of us, on the other hand, take advantage of our continuous brain-body interaction, whereby it is possible to use your mind intentionally to direct the body to super-charge our immune functioning.

There are, I believe, two reasons for this. Firstly, very few of us realize that this is possible and so are not in a position to make an informed choice to attend to such matters. Secondly, we in the Western world tend in general to pay attention to the physical as opposed to the mental - it is easier and quicker to take a pill than it is to expend effort upon mind-body communication.

My intention therefore in just a few brief paragraphs is to raise awareness of how your mind and body interact throughout every millisecond of the day and night AND also to make you aware of how little time and effort is required for you to take advantage of this phenomenon. It is truly amazing how powerful your mind is, once you choose to use it!

Researchers at Stanford University, California, have shown that patients in chronic pain can use mental exercises to reduce and relieve their suffering, whilst researchers at Harvard have shown that the use of meditation can prolong the life of the elderly. Patients can learn to overcome IBS with the use of hypnosis and visualization, those vulnerable to heart attacks can mentally slow down their heart rate, people can learn how to reduce their blood pressure, women can control pain in child birth and operations may be performed using hypno-anesthesia.

Yet more researchers have found that diet, exercise and the practice of stress-reduction techniques, can actually REVERSE coronary disease. Diet and exercise alone won't do it.

These are but a few examples which show how your mind and body are intrinsically linked. How you think and the emotions which you experience create specific bodily effects. Hypnosis and relaxation techniques such as meditation are the key to this.

Hypnosis is both normal and natural, and whilst you are in hypnosis you have access to your subconscious mind; it allows contact with the inner mind, it allows you to access the inner wiring of your body. Hypnotic suggestions and mental images, directed to encourage normal and healthy bodily functioning, can be transported through your neural pathways to each and every cell in your body. Hypnosis can be used in effect to "tune your engine" and turbo-charge your immune system.

And you can do this easily and effortlessly, simply by listening to a recording in your own home, perhaps when you are settling down at night to go to sleep; you don't need to go somewhere else to do it or to take time out. Neither is it expensive; you don't have to buy a monthly supply!!
