People are getting sicker by the day. Not great news, but true.

When we know the truth, we are in a position to do something about it… if (and when) we have the desire to do so.

Take a look around. How much dis-ease, anxiety and stress are people dealing with? As a result of day-to-day experiences, people stress eat, drink to excess, binge watch Netflix for hours on end, become couch potatoes, get very little, if any, exercise, while unconsciously stuffing their face, getting more frustrated by the day. Rather than be in control of their emotions, their emotions are in control of them.

More than their emotions having control of them, their emotions are causing illness. From headaches, stomach aches, heart palpitations to serious illness, many people are not evaluating what’s going on. They are simply accepting this as part of life and growing older.

Vicious Cycle

It becomes a vicious cycle. Eat garbage to stuff emotions. Stuff emotions to deal with the garbage one eats. The more garbage one eats, the more unhealthy they get. The more unhealthy they get, the more they stuff.

According to John Randolph Price, in his book, The Superbeings, institutes like John Hopkins University School of Medicine, University of Southern California and Yale have directly linked emotions to illness (page 83).

Now that the cover has been pulled back, it’s time to dig deeper.

Many people have no idea how much control they actually have over their emotions simply by being aware of what’s happening. Additionally, to be aware of what and how they are eating.

Conscious vs. Mindful Eating

According to A Beginner’s Guide to Mindful Eating post, “Mindful eating is about using mindfulness to reach a state of full attention to your experiences, cravings, and physical cues when eating. Fundamentally, mindful eating involves: eating slowly and without distraction. listening to physical hunger cues and eating only until you’re full.”
Often, when someone hears the term “conscious eating” they think of mindful eating. The two can be interchangeable yet, conscious eating goes deeper into a level of awareness that every bit of food and drink you put into your body impacts you.

No two ways about it; the food you consume has a domino effect.

Simply put, what you put in your mouth impacts every area of your health, emotions and well-being.

“Good nutrition is the foundation for good health. But when people lack consistent access to nutritious food or maintain an unhealthy diet, it can create a domino effect of negative consequences that extends to many facets of a person’s life – clinical, financial, and even social.”

Regardless of whether you call it mindful or conscious eating, it’s about awareness as it relates to the world around you and what’s going on inside your mind, body and soul… and the emotions that manifest by the choices you make.

It’s All About Energy

The energy of what we consume either serves us at the highest level or makes us downright sick.

With the recent lifting of restrictions from the COVID-19 quarantine, there are those who continued a high level of consciousness of not only their willingness to carry on with social distancing, frequently washing their hands, sanitizing doorknobs, countertops, steering wheels, and other high traffic areas, while others eagerly reverted back to old behaviors as if we are not still in a high risk time.

It can be jaw-dropping to watch newscasts showing people who have been in quarantine for the last couple of months clamor to bars and restaurants to stuff their mouths with food and drink that is so energetically dead, without a thought for what the world has been going through. Rather than see the last few months as a great opportunity to dig deep and evaluate the connection between one’s behaviors and their health, they celebrate restrictions being lifted failing to realize we are not out of the woods… yet.

Guzzling down drink after drink, elbow to elbow with others who couldn’t wait to have a night out, people are found downing huge cheeseburgers and fries, massive amounts of alcohol, without a thought to a possible connection to what they are consuming and the pandemic. A pandemic with no end in sight.

When you think of the emotions transferred through what we consume, it makes perfect sense NOT to eat any animal or dairy products. Period.

Plant-based Eating IS the Solution

Eating dead foods, aka animal and dairy, lowers our ability to function efficiently whereas, eating as close to nature and whole foods raises our ability to function at a high level.

Think of it this way; if everything is energy, then the more energetic the foods are we consume, the more we benefit our field of energy.

When consuming foods that have pain, suffering and inhumane treatment attached to them, such as factory farmed animal products, the more we take on the pain, suffering and energy of inhumane treatment. Most people have never made this connection. They’ve never given thought to the “journey” the hamburger they are eating has gone through to get on their plate.

Want to raise the awareness about what you’re consuming? It’s actually simple; meditate on what you put in your mouth. Simply put, before you take a bite of food, imagine the journey the food took to get on the end of your fork. Was there pain, suffering and anguish attached to it or was it grown in a way that enhances your ability to do your life’s work?

Eating plant based is likely the #1 best thing we can do to raise our vibration and heal our mind, body and soul as well as minimize our risk for complications should we contract the virus.

Eating plant based allows for a much more conscious way of eating.

Dis-ease is Unnatural

This may seem far fetched to some, but truth be told, it’s so unnatural to have this much disease (dis-ease) with cases growing by the day. And…there is a definite connection between the newly discovered COVID-19 and the risk that comes with lifestyle choices. Additionally, the associations between COVID-19 and obesity.

We can no longer deny the direct connection between what we consume and our risk factors.

Why is it that there has been a dramatic rise in obesity, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and other diseases many have come to accept as normal?

Why is it that there is so much turmoil and unrest, depression, and anxiety that is becoming more prevalent by the day?

If you’ve not taken time to dig deep and truly research the connection between what we eat and how closely connected your emotions are, now is such a great time to do so.

Additionally, to deny the connection between lifestyle choices and risk factors is downright deadly. People cannot continue to deny this if, in fact, they want to minimize their risk factors to do with COVID-19.

For most people, it’s not too late to turn your health around. You CAN be incredibly healthy in mind, body and soul, but you must be willing to put in the time and effort to create this type of outcome. It takes effort and work.
A healthy life is created through meditation, quiet time, exercise, hydration, and the consumption of a whole food, plant based diet void of all animal and dairy products as well as excess processed sugar (a definite trigger for emotional roller coaster rides), processed oil and excess salt.

Your quality of life is based on the quality of the choices you make. What choices are you making that allow for your life to be the healthiest it can be?

How to Practice Mindful Eating

Eating mindfully may seem as if it will take a lot of effort, but once you experience it, you may never want to rush through a meal again.

Before and during your meal, consciously take a few deep breaths. Use all your senses to fully experience your food and drink. Observe the smells, textures, sounds, colors and tastes. Continue to breath in the flavors and smells. Simply slow down. It’s that simple.

Quietly express gratitude for the blessing of the foods you are consuming. The energy of food changes at a molecular level with we are in a state of gratitude.

Even the Mayo Clinic encourages mindful eating. According to the Mayo Clinic, “Mindful eating is an effective weight-loss strategy that encourages you to slow down and pay attention to your food, noticing each sip or bite you take. It helps focus your senses on exploring, savoring and tasting your food, and teaches you to follow hunger cues. Put mindful eating into practice with these ideas as you prepare and eat meals. It gets easier over time!”

The next time you sit down for a meal, give thought to where the food came from and how it was processed. Simply knowing this may change what, and how, you consume your food.
