As soon as you trust yourself, you will know how to live." ~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Above is one of many thoughtful quotes included throughout the book I just read by Julia Cameron, author of "Finding Water, The Art of Perserverance." If you are blocked in any way from doing what is your passion, there are many forms of support in this 2006 release that is the third installment in "The Artist Way" series by Julia Cameron.

Julia always seems to inspire with her down to earth voice and offers many ideas for finding ways to keep the artist alive. Her writing reveals how much she struggles like everyone else to be authentic and do what she feels she was put on earth to do. It's not just the creative arts, but anything that requires believing in yourself and what you are passionate about doing.

With that in mind, I started thinking about the phrase that people use when they say someone is "living their dream." I understand it means they are living the actual life they have dreamed about living. On the other hand, dreams are fantasies and not reality. What if the work that people do, which is not what they really "want to do" represents fantasy and thus, a dream?

If you are "living the real you" instead of "living the dream" it seems like that is the ulitimate goal in life. Many people go around living in a dream world that is not who they really are, in jobs that don't connect with their passion. Some of the more determined ones manage to break through what they think they "have to do" and find ways to do what they "want to do."

It takes being honest with yourself and recognizing what gives you the most pleasure in life. When that becomes an awareness and you accept it and then act on it, you're not "living the dream"...you're "living the reality" that has always been YOU!

In that case..."What we call fate does not come into us from the outside, but emerges from us." Rainer Maria Rilke
