Katrina Newby is founder and president of Women About Biz, one of the fastest growing networks for businesswomen in the United States. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Katrina (affectionately called “Trina”) has touched the lives of thousands of women who needed someone to guide them in starting or growing their businesses.
Traveling the world as a military spouse, Trina found it was difficult for military spouses to find permanent employment. To overcome this obstacle, she learned how to find the need in the areas she lived, researched the business concept and started a business wherever she and her husband were stationed.
Since 1983, she has successfully owned, operated and sold several small and home-based businesses including a cleaning service, resume service, senior shopping service, data and word processing service and seminar company to name a few.
After sharing with other military spouses how to properly start a business, Trina soon learned that she had a gift for speaking and sharing business information with other women. She soon started taking business classes and researching the latest business start-up information and developed her first seminar, “Women Working from Home” in 1988. A huge success, Trina developed other successful seminars including, “Christian Women Working from Home”, “Help! My Business Isn’t Making Money”, “Starting a Small or Home-based Business”, “Writing a Working Business Plan” and many others.
In 1994, Trina became a contracted consultant specializing in home business for the Small Business Development Center. She also conducted small business workshops for the Small Business Administration in San Diego, California. There she was well known for her street-smart approach to starting a business.
Trina has been a guest on several television shows including San Diego Business in Focus and CNN’s Business Hour and has also been featured in a number of publications including Entrepreneur and Home Office Computing magazines. She is also the founder of several conferences including Women In Business, Home Business & Technology Conference, and the “Businesswomen’s Taking a Break Retreat”.
She has written several workbooks and guides giving sound instruction and inspiring individuals to start and grow their businesses properly. Her most popular works include: “Starting a Small or Home-based Business”, “Christian Women Working From Home”, “Creating Your Circle of Influence”, “10 Ways to Bring In Business” and “I Know I’m My Own Boss, But Who’s Guiding Me?”.
Trina’s education includes an Associates Degree in Business Administration, Dekalb College, Decatur, Georgia 1983; Intercultural and Foreign Relations training, SIETAR International, Georgetown University, 1989; Entrepreneurs Training Program, Southwestern College, Chula Vista, California 1994 and has completed several certifications in entrepreneurship, leadership and business management.
In 1999, Trina and her family moved back to Atlanta after her husband’s retirement from the Navy. Because of her passion in helping women to achieve their goals and dreams of operating a successful business, she continues to speak at businesswomen’s conferences and motivate businesswomen throughout the United States.
Trina is the author of the new workbook and guide, Smart Start, Your Guide to Starting a Small or Home-based Business. This publication cuts out all of the small talk and gets right to the point in providing sound and up-to-date information on starting a business.
