Rob Davidson is the founder and President of The McCurdy Corporation (TMC), which purchased and consolidated these former companies originally founded by him: McCurdy Cash Consultants, Inc. (MCC), McCurdy Marketing, Inc. (MMI), McCurdy Real Estate, Inc. (MRE), and McCurdy Strategic Investments, Inc. (MSI). TMC continues the business activities of these predecessor corporations. While MCC was formed to offer consulting services to accelerate cash flows into businesses and other commercial enterprises, MMI continues the international and domestic marketing and advisory work began by ATLON, Inc., discussed later, and MSI utilizes his active licenses in stocks, bonds, commodities, life, variable life and variable annuity insurance, real estate, and almost any other investment product allowed under the SEC. TMC has an array of corporate representations developed from Mr. Davidson's prior years of business experience with Green, Morris and Associates, Inc., where he was a Vice President continuing his traditional investment work while also working on Corporate Finance; Prudential Securities, Inc., where he was a Senior Vice President/Investments; Lehman Brothers, Inc., then a division of American Express, where he was a Senior Vice President of Investments serving on each of the Firm's Chairman's, Director's and Futures' Councils; his beginnings in the security business with The Robinson Humphrey Co. Inc., in 1982; and his international business experience and residency for the five years preceding, which is expounded upon in more detail later.
Born Robert McCurdy Davidson in Atlanta, Georgia, as the second son of Charlie Davidson and Cile McCurdy Davidson, his family heritage of Davidsons and McCurdys cover over eight generations in DeKalb County, one of the counties comprising Atlanta. His family heritage reaches into most every phase of American life from the U.S. Presidency to senior judiciary, not the least of which is Chief Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr., to most every walk of business and banking, and celebrated religious leaders and educators. Mr. Davidson attended The Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, for high school, where he was elected President of the Student Council by the student body and Secretary of the Honor Council, among other leadership positions held and accolades received. At Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, he received a B. S. degree in Accounting, and was active with the Sigma Chi fraternity, whose charitable work he still supports.
Prior to entering the securities business, Mr. Davidson accepted an offer in January of 1977 with a consortium of building material supply companies led by Vulcan Materials of Birmingham, Alabama, to go to Saudi Arabia and help start up operations for them there. His job requirements included: developing the joint venture's existing ARAMCO business; investigating, as special advisor to the company's President, non-ARAMCO business through a new joint venture; reporting to President Jimmy Carter, Vice President Walter Mondale, all members of the U. S. Congress, and the U. S. Government Accounting Office on the tax implications to U. S. citizens working abroad; and, originating accounting records for the twelve joint ventures, at that time, of Vulcan's Saudi partner Khalid Turki.
In February of 1978, Mr. Davidson accepted a position with the Olayan Group, one of Saudi Arabia's largest business conglomerates. His work began in the Eastern Province with thirty joint ventures, which more than doubled over his next two years to cover multiple phases of distribution, manufacturing, agriculture, construction, transportation, and marketing. He was asked after a few months to move to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and head the Group's affairs in Saudi Arabia's Western Province, as well as serve as the Mideast Assistant to Sulaiman Olayan, the Group's founder and Chairman. His responsibilities covered the expansion of business activities for joint ventures, public relations for the Group, and representation of Chairman's office affairs. In these capacities, he liaised with government ministers and other officials and corporate Chairman, CEO's, Presidents, and Vice Presidents for major companies worldwide such as Mobil Oil, Chase Manhattan Bank, Lloyd's of London, Owens Corning, American Express, Bechtel Construction, the Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Group, Nitro Nobel of Sweden, FMC, Barclay's Bank, Westinghouse, United Technologies and its subsidiaries, and many others.
In the first quarter of 1980, Mr. Davidson founded ATLON, Inc. (renamed later to MMI), with offices in Atlanta, Georgia, and London, England, to assist Americans, Europeans, and Far Easterners on developing business in the Middle East with the best local agent or partner. In January of 1982, Justus Martin, Chairman of the Board of The Robinson Humphrey Co., Inc., hired Mr. Davidson to develop similar business for their Southeast investment banking clients, though respected his continuation with ATLON, Inc. In July of 1997, MMI advised and assisted Crescent Capital Investments, Inc., a foreign owned buy-out firm based in Atlanta, for months prior to their inception. Also, MMI sponsored the creation of MCC for its’ niche consulting services. Today, MMI still represents domestic and international clients with marketing services worldwide.
With over three decades of active involvement in international marketing activities and/or investment banking and advisory work, Mr. Davidson has developed an extensive network of institutions and high net-worth individuals worldwide with a complexity of financial needs, testing thoroughly his own training and array of licenses. These individuals and institutions are served through a similar network of investment managers and financial advisory services, who represent the gamut of investment possibilities and usually rank among the best in the world in their particular areas of proficiency. Mr. Davidson's research involves global economic analysis drawn in part from the amalgamation of the numerous investment advisory leaders with whom he works. This research covers, though is not limited to, stocks, bonds, and mutual funds; currencies, precious metals, and commodities; health and life insurance; real estate; and business, estate, and retirement planning services. Mr. Davidson has been fortunate in translating this research into tremendous investment gains for his clients, and has been rewarded as one of the highest paid persons in his profession.
Aside from business pursuits, Mr. Davidson is an active member and former director of the Decatur Rotary Club, a Life Member of the DeKalb Historical Society, a President's Club member to Wake Forest University, a Life Long Sig with Sigma Chi fraternity, a member of the Atlanta Commercial Board of Realtors, a sponsor of Ducks Unlimited, a former Morrow Society Member with Georgia Public Television (GPTV), a former director of the American Heart Association's DeKalb Division, and a regular contributor to The Baylor School, Shepherd Spinal Center, Henrietta Egleston Children's Hospital, Scottish Rite Children's Hospital, Northside Hospital, DeKalb Medical Foundation, The Georgia Center for Children, Our House, The Boy Scouts of America, The Alzheimer's Association, and the Robin Hood Foundation. DeKalb Superior Court Judge Dan Coursey made a unique presentation to him in 1991 of Rotary's Four Way Test Award for his integrity and leadership in "Service Above Self", and The DeKalb Rotary Council named Mr. Davidson "Rotarian of the Year" for 1993-94. For 1994-95, he served as Chairman of GPTV's Leadership Circle membership drive as well as Chairman of Decatur Rotary's Rotary Foundation Committee. He also supports his church, Northside First United Methodist Church, as a member of its' Finance Committee, as well as his children's schools. In these and other areas of service, some of the most meaningful would include: his help in assisting the largest gathering of American and Saudi Arabian business leaders ever before outside the Middle East, when he brought the SaudiAmerica Conference to Atlanta in 1983; the record he set for the Boy Scouts of America's DeKalb Division in both 1992 and 1993, as Chairman on its Sustaining Membership Enrollment by raising more money than any campaign has ever done before and doing it in the shortest time - just three weeks vs. the usual four months; or his involvement with the Decatur Rotary Club's Polio Plus campaign, as a part of a worldwide effort by Rotary to eradicate polio and five other life threatening diseases attacking children, when he challenged the Club's $25,000 goal by raising over $60,000 in the first few months, ultimately, bringing their total to over $100,000 - one of the highest per member amounts in Rotary International.
