A hospice nurse for 13 years, Lorna considers herself a messenger, called to spread the word that death can be well planned, celebratory, and often faith affirming. As the dying share with those they trust what they see in their final moments, hospice staff are in a unique position to gather & share these amazing events. Compiling these insights resulted in the HAPPY ENDINGS Uplifting End of life Stories and MORE HAPPY ENDINGS books.
When touched by grief herself, Lorna used her knowledge of yoga to apply it's ancient balancing principles to the divergent population who struggle with grief & loss. Yoga teaching experiences with students with MS, arthritis, stroke & in wheelchairs was her motivation in the co-authoring, GENTLE YOGA in the 1980's. Calling upon this adaptive background, Lorna has designed YOGA FOR A GRIEVING HEART for hospice
caregivers and people of all ages who struggle through the long journey of bereavement.
Children and their unique responses to grief is of particular interest to Lorna. Facilitating a Yoga component at Grief Camps is has been very rewarding. She also serves on the Minister of Consolation team of her church.
Lorna & her husband live in Dallas, where they garden, canoe, ballroom dance and visit their 4 grown children & 8 grandchildren.
"The best education about life is at the bedside of the dying." It has been an awesome privilege to witness the amazing, serendipitous, even miraculous events that happen around the time of death. As a hospice nurse, these events were so faith affirming that I began collecting them. In 2000, I published the 1st HAPPY ENDINGS Uplifting End of Life Stories collection. Readers sent me their experiences, & MORE HAPPY ENDINGS resulted.
I soon began walking the long journey of caregiver, myself, when my own sister began loosing her battle with cancer. Calling upon my yoga background, and recent research validating yoga's benefits for depression, I assembeled a here & now guide for the bereaved called YOGA FOR A GRIEVING HEART. It offers rationale for why our chests & throats hurt when we are sad, and how we can move, through yoga, to open these blocked, stuck locations where our grief resides. Yoga principles of breathing for calmness & health, & differences between grief, sadness & depression are illustrated. Meditative healing, including developing a Gratitude Attitude are offered as part of emotional healing mindset. All books can be ordered directly from the author @ loronbell@AOL.com
