I have heard the saying that if you want to know hat a man is about you should just watch his checkbook. I want to add to that saying. If you can’t see a man’s checkbook just listen to the words that come out of his mouth. Now let me get personal and take it just a step further. If you want to really know what’s in your own heart take some time and listen to what is coming out of your own mouth. Be objective when you do and if it’s wrong don’t try to justify it, just admit that it’s wrong.

The bible says that out of your heart flows the issues of life. Your heart means your personality, will, and emotions. The way that you express the issues of your heart are through your mouth. The words that you speak paint a picture of you for others to see. You may not even realize it but every time you open your mouth you are painting a picture of yourself for the world to see.

I see people all of the time who make promises that they can’t keep for one reason or the other. This is absolutely the worst thing that you can do even if you mean business. You are your word. You are the words that come out of your mouth so be very careful what you allow yourself to speak. One thing that I have learned in recent years is to be very careful about the words that I speak. Many times even the truth will get you into trouble. A true word or words spoken at the wrong time can be just as dangerous as a nuclear bomb.

Have you ever heard the term, “Self fulfilling prophecy,” this means that you will have exactly what you say. Bad or negative conversation reveals exactly where your heart is and good conversation does the same. Even when you may be totally right bad conversation is not good. It shows your state of mind. When you have been wronged and hold onto it you are choosing to keep a bad thing internalized. Now I am not saying that it is OK for people to do you wrong because it isn’t. What’s wrong is when you can’t let it go or refuse to do so. Hard feelings only hurt you. People are so heartless that it doesn’t bother them to try to do you in. Others who have a lifestyle of doing others in have learned how to sleep at night in spite of the wrong that they do. If you can’t learn to get past it, it will hinder you in life. This is a lesson that I had to learn the hard way. I had some things to happen to me not very long ago which were absolutely rotten, but there is nothing that I can do to reverse them. The people who did those things could care less whether I live or die so they don’t have any bad feelings about the matter. If they are not bothered why should I be? It is what it is. Let’s just move on from here.

People respond to you based on the words that you speak. I used to be the world’s biggest complainer and I couldn’t understand why people would avoid me. I wasn’t even aware of it until a friend of mine brought it to my attention. I began to listen to myself and I didn’t like what I was hearing. If I were to be perfectly honest sometimes I still don’t like what I hear but those times are rare now.

It is best to be transparent in word and deed. Let yes mean yes and let no mean no. Don’t be in a hurry to make promises even when you have every intention of keeping them. I like to promise little and deliver much. Sometimes people wonder about my resolve or intentions but it is better when I deliver more than I have promised. Riceland Enterprises
