Poverty and scarcity can happen while we are sleeping. Not only poverty for ourselves but for others. When we choose to sleep and rest, we are allowing poverty and scarcity to happen to others as well. Sleeping and resting is not just about laying or sitting down, it is about continuing in our own routines and doing nothing to help others. When we choose to rest because we think we lack in certain skills and abilities, we are simply looking for excuses not to help.

Proverbs 24:33-34 “A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber.”

There are many times when we don’t feel like we can do anything to help. There are times when we feel we don’t have the energy, we don’t have the time or we don’t have the skills or finances; however, if we put our minds on getting something done, it will happen. We are capable of doing things that we don’t realize we can do. We don’t need to sleep and to rest when there is work to do.

Our strength does not come from within our own minds and bodies. There is a greater power allowing us to do things beyond our own comprehension. If we limit ourselves to just what we believe we can or can’t do, we are going to live a life that lacks living on purpose for God. God is our Strength. God is our Power. He can allow us to do things that are beyond our own comprehension. He has no limits or boundaries.

If we only took time to really pray and wait on God’s plan for us without getting distracted by our own routines of the world. If we only took time to understand other people’s needs and how God wants us to be a part of something bigger than we could ever imagine. It is time we took a look at what we do every day. It is time we took a look at the needs of the people in our world and ask God to make a change in our daily routines.

We believe we are busy. We believe we are supposed to get up every morning, go to work or school and go home. We believe we are supposed to be sure we have what we need to live and let someone else take care of the rest. When we get wrapped up in our own world, our routines become repetitive and boring. That is when we begin to seek excitement of the world and that is when we lose sight of what God can do in our lives to make them exciting.

We need to be sure that what we are doing in our lives is not just for us and our family but for others. We can’t be bragging about what we do and taking credit for things and still have the right heart to help others. When we live to help others, our own needs and pains will minimize. We won’t want to talk about how great we are but look for ways to do God’ will, show others how great He is and get out of our regular routines.

Philippians 2:3-4 “Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.”

When we get ourselves into a routine, we are limiting ourselves to just what we see and what we currently do. When we get ourselves into a pattern, it can become hard to break. God wants us to look for things to do outside of our normal routine. He wants us to see what is going on out in the world and push ourselves to do His will so that we can make a difference. He wants something to happen that is bigger than what we can even imagine. Let’s start today to make a change for Him.
