Many times we feel like we are bombarded with things to do. We have responsibilities at home, at work, at school. We have obligations to God, to others and to ourselves. We want a balanced life with a clean home, great relationships and good health. We want to have enough money to tithe and pay the bills. However, we soon find out that we aren’t able to get all of these things accomplished.

We can’t really do enough to keep our lives balanced. There will always be something to do. There will always be someone who needs help. There will always be something to clean. There will always be bills to pay. It is important that we don’t dwell on the things that we can’t get done, but to be grateful for what we can do. If we dwell on what we aren’t doing, we will begin to feel guilty.

Psalm 38:4 “My guilt overwhelms me—it is a burden too heavy to bear.”

Guilt can overcome us when we are busy doing one thing but are not able to help out somewhere else. We may feel bad because we really wanted to help out in one situation but we had obligations in another area of our lives. Guilt will only stay with us if we allow it to. If we dwell on things long enough, guilt will take over our minds.

Guilt is a form of worry. When we feel guilty, we are really feeling worried about something we did or didn’t do. Sometimes the guilt we have is not for something we did wrong, but for something we didn’t do or if we feel like we have let someone down. The guilt makes us worry about not getting things done or how someone feels about a situation.

When we feel guilty, we are bearing a burden. It may be something that is not really as important to others as it is to us. It may be we are just beating ourselves up inside because we feel we are lacking in some way. It may be we want to do more in one area of our lives but our obligations just won’t let us.

When we feel guilty, we need to ask God to help us know we really can never do everything in our lifetime. He knows what we need to be doing. When we go to Him before we make plans, He will let us know what the most important thing to do is. God will guide us away from guilt and toward a sense of accomplishment. We need to have faith in Him to guide us to do what He wants us to do.

We need to go to God with our to do lists and let Him guide us. When we focus on Him and our faith in Him, our guilt about not getting it all done will disappear. We will begin to see what it is He wants us to do and to be. God is the answer to anything we need to be doing. When we have God in the midst of our days, the guilt will go away and we will know we are doing His will and we are making a difference.
