Psalm 119:17-20 “Be good to your servant, that I may live and obey your word. Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in your instructions. I am only a foreigner in the land. Don’t hide your commands from me! I am always overwhelmed with a desire for your regulations.”

There are many times when we feel we have way too much to do. We know there are things going on in all areas of our lives that need attention; however, we are so busy in one area that the other parts of our lives tend to get left out. It is time we understood we can’t get everything done. We can’t do all things for everyone. We have to draw the line somewhere so that we aren’t feeling so overwhelmed that we just collapse.

Knowing what is most important to do will help us to focus only what needs to be done right now. We don’t always see what is most important and when we do, we don’t always know what action to take. However, when we know what is important and what we need to do, we don’t always do it. We put it off by doing other things and saying we are too busy to handle that most important thing.

Getting ourselves into overwhelm is easy when we get distracted by the easy things to do. We spend time doing what we want rather than what we should. We decide we need to rest and take a break for one more day while the things we continue to put off are just getting bigger. We need to be sure that we are staying busy and we are doing what is most important to do and we are taking the right action.

We can’t know what is most important to do unless we have the right relationship with God. When we give Him all of our time, we allow Him to make the decisions for us. When we take time to talk with Him and read His word, He will show us what it is we need to do. God has our plan for us and sometimes the things we are overwhelmed about aren’t really in God’s plan.

First of all, we need to know what God’s plan is for us. We should spend time with Him and seek out what His will is for us by taking actions He gives us to do through opportunities He places before us. God may not speak to us with His plan until we are ready to hear it. God possibly has been showing us our plan all along and we are too busy to see it. We need to stop and focus on Him so we can know what He wants us to do.

The overwhelm will go away once we know what God’s will is for us. The things we stayed busy doing and worrying about will not seem as important. We need to be sure we are not stuck in overwhelm with the things we believe we need to do. We should be stuck in overwhelm with what God can do in our lives. We should be overwhelmed with desire to do God’s will.

We can start by reading His word, talking with Him, listening and obeying. The actions God wants us to take will be clear to us and we will know what we are to do to please Him. We can start by having faith in Him knowing that whatever He gives us to do, He will be with us the entire time so that the overwhelm of the world will disappear and we can do what He wants us to do to make a difference.
