We hear these phrases often: Step Into Your Power, Own Your Worth. But what do they really mean, and how do you do it?

To be in your power is not to be forceful, manipulative, or aggressive.

To be in your power is to be in alignment. To be in your power is to trust that you are in the right place at the right time.

To be in your power is to claim your joy, deliver your gifts, and own your part in the life you create.

I'm sure you've seen successful people, both in and out of the spotlight, who seem to glide easily from success to success. They are in their power, they're centered in trust, and they listen to divine guidance and their inner wisdom.

Now, for someone who's never known what it's like to be in their power, this might all sound a bit woo-woo. I understand. But stay with me.

I believe that everyone, without exception, (and yes that means you) has known at least one moment in their lives when they've felt truly powerful, when they've felt like everything is working out, and they've felt incredible confidence and ease.

If you've ever experienced that, you know what it feels like to be in your power.

And may I remind you that it has nothing to do with what anyone else is or isn't doing. It has nothing to do with what anyone else might think or feel. It's all about you. What you know. What you feel. What is. Period. For you.

That's stepping into your power. That's a feeling state you want to be able to recognize and develop.

So, how do you cultivate that feeling and keep it around for more than a nanosecond? Even more importantly, how do you "know" how to step into your power when it really matters most?

Here are a few places to start:

Daily affirmations and personal mantras are powerful, especially when said while you're moving your body. There is something about incorporating physical movement with your affirmations that helps your body to believe them. (If interested, you might like to read more about the mind-body connection.)

If you're stuck on what affirmations to say, Louise Hay offers a variety of affirmations. Start there. Or Google 'affirmations' and see what resonates with you. The bottom line when it comes to affirmations is that they absolutely must feel good to you when you read them or say them aloud. If you can't believe the affirmation, if it doesn't generate positive feelings for you, it won't generate the power you're looking for. So keep looking or tweaking until you find affirmations that fit you.

Write down how you positively affect people. This can be in work or in your life. What do they say about how you shine your light? Write it down, and read it often. Begin to identify what makes you, you. Claim that! Own it. It begins when you ask others to share how they see you. And then you let it in instead of brushing it off or dismissing it.

Meditate, go outside, get grounded and centered. If you just spend just 15 minutes every day sitting with yourself and quieting your mind, you will begin to discover a place of inner peace, trust and knowing.

However, if meditation is not your thing, go outside and observe the abundance of nature. Notice it. Savor it. Feel connected and recharged.

Praise. I know this isn't easy. Just begin. It's a practice. What if you gave yourself praise, love, adoration, and self-care on a daily basis? What if even half the energy spent every day in self-criticism and negative self-talk was eliminated or turned around to praise and self-love? Think about that for a minute. There is no faster way to feeling alive (and powerful) than showering that kind of love upon yourself. Just because you're you. Now that is stepping into your power.

Unfortunately we're trained from a young age to look outside ourselves for direction and approval, to look outside ourselves for validation that we're worthy. That practice actually disempowers us.

It's up to you now. You can choose a different path. You're an entrepreneur – so in many ways you've already chosen a different path. Why not take it a step farther and choose to consciously step into your power?

Begin today.

Reduce the amount of energy devoted to negative self-talk and self-criticism. Stop looking to others for confirmation, validation, and self-worth.

Cultivate the art of listening to your inner wisdom, your higher self, divine guidance, and trust that all is well. Trust that you do know what is best for you. Trust that you are on the right path – for you.

Eventually you will know your power and own your worth. And when that happens, there is no stopping you!
