We can all say we have been obedient at some point in our lives to our parents, in our jobs, in certain situations or in our spiritual lives; however, obedience never stops. We don’t just obey once a day by reading God’s word and then go about doing whatever we please. We don’t just do one thing at work that we are supposed to do and then decide the rest is not really important. If we did, we wouldn’t have a job for very long.

1 Chronicles 24:19 "Each group carried out its appointed duties in the house of the Lord according to the procedures established by their ancestor Aaron in obedience to the commands of the Lord, the God of Israel."

God requires we are to be obedient in all that we do. We should be obedient in our spiritual walk. We should be obedient taking care of our bodies. We should be obedient building relationships and helping others. We should be obedient taking care of our finances. We should be obedient in our careers. And we should be obedient to God in the life He wants us to have that fulfills His will for us on earth.

This may seem overwhelming to obey in all areas of our lives all day long. However, with God, all things are possible. Just being aware of doing what God wants us to do is a start. When we stay aware of the importance of obedience, we begin to take action. Just talking about doing what God wants us to do in these areas of our lives does not cover being obedient. Obedience requires action.

We are to be obedient to God in our appointed duties. We all have different responsibilities in our lives. We have different talents and skills. However, the commonality we do have is that we are to be obedient to God in all areas of our lives. We are to carry out our appointed duties.

We may wonder how we can possible keep up with all the things we are to do to obey God. How can we focus in all areas knowing we are carrying out God’s plan for us. One way is through prayer. When we begin our day with prayer remembering and thanking God for yesterday and asking Him what to do today, He will reveal His plans to us throughout the day.

We can also remember through reading His word and meditating on it throughout the day. Remembering His word will help us to know we need to remember to obey. Taking a verse from scripture and putting it on paper to carry with us will help us to really think about God all day long and what He wants us to do.

We need to write down our goals and the steps God wants us to take in our lives. We can’t keep up with all there is to do, remember to do and know that it was done if we don’t write it down or have some system to keep up with everything. This will also help us look back and see what God has done for us and what we have accomplished. Writing things down will help us know what we still need to do.

Finally, we need to start. God wants us to take action. When He says “carry out,” He wants us to do the things He has asked us to do in His word. We may say we are still not clear on what action to take. However, things will become clearer when we start doing something. Once we start to do something, things we do will begin to feel right and will fall into place. We will then know we are moving in the direction God wants us to do.

Obedience never stops. We need to know what there is to do, what we need to do and take action. We should strive to improve a little each day. We should strive to make today a little better than yesterday. We should commit to do something more than we did the day before. When we choose to obey God, all day long, we will begin to see a change – God’s change, in us. Then we can begin to make a difference.
