When other people do wrong or act in a way that is not pleasing to us, sometimes we feel hurt and want to retaliate or we feel if they can do these things, why can’t we. How many times have we wondered why some people get away with things they do and we don’t? How many times have we tried to do things other people do and we found it didn’t make us happy?
We can’t be focused on what others are doing and try to compare that to how we should live. Happiness does not come from doing what others do or from anything in this world. Happiness and joy come only from the Lord. Trying to be like someone else or have what they have is only wasting our time and God’s time.
We have exact instructions from God on what we are to do. We are to be devoted to Him. We are to look forward to Jesus’ coming. We are to live as God wants us to live and not base our lives on what others are doing around us. We shouldn’t compare ourselves to others and their actions. There is no comparison when we look to God and base our life on His instructions.
Titus 2:12-14 “And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God, while we look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed. He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.”
We can only be responsible for our own actions. What we do shouldn’t something based on how we feel about what someone else did or didn’t do. Our responsibility is to God first. Our actions should be based on His rules. We are to fear God and stay close to Him knowing that He is our Protector and He is in control if we allow Him to be.
God freed us from every kind of sin when He allowed Jesus to be crucified. He made us His own. We should be focused on doing good deed and telling others about Him and the great life we have because our sins have been forgiven. Being an example to those who do wrong rather than trying to figure out why they did what they did will help us to remember why we are here.
We are here to live completely devoted to God. We are here to turn from evil and be an example to others. We are here to share God’s word and prepare for our eternal home. The purpose God has given us on earth is the same. The talents and skills He has given us are all different. We are to use what God has given us to make a difference.
When we move our focus off of other people’s actions and wishing we were more like them, we can focus more on God and His word. We can spend more time reading about how others did His will and we can find out from Him what He wants us to do. When we learn our purpose, we can then get busy for God doing good deeds and lifting His name up so He can make a difference through us.
