Many of us have some type of social network we connect to online for various reasons. Some of us may be out there just to check on others we know and see what they are doing. Some of us may be out there to find that special someone in our lives we can spend some time with. Some of us may be out there to get away from our own lives and loves as an escape from the real word.

We need to be careful who we talk with and what we tell to people. There are many eyes watching the Internet and the information we put on there is rarely secure. Relationships have been started and destroyed because of the Internet and the conversations that took place.

There are some social networks where we can list if we are single, looking, in a relationship, etc. so others will know what our availability and if we are looking for someone to correspond with. We have to be careful what we put as our status because there will be times we are tempted to put something that is not necessarily true in hopes to find others who we feel may interest us more than our current relationships do.

However, if we really think about it, we should all be in a relationship. Not necessarily the standard way we would think where we have another person in our lives we are committed to, but in the sense we have God in our lives. We should be in a relationship with God every day. We should be committed to Him in all we do and the things we put on the Internet should be in line with what He would want us to say and do.

Colossian 1:28-29 “So we tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all the wisdom God has given us. We want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ. That’s why I work and struggle so hard, depending on Christ’s mighty power that works within me.”

It is so easy to post words on the Internet we would not normally say to someone face to face. It is so easy to start up a conversation with someone on the Internet we don’t know and begin to feel closer to them than we do our own family. It is so easy to get wrapped up in the information, people and places on the Internet that it consumes our time more and more each day and week.

If we are in a true relationship with God, what we say and do on the Internet will reflect that. We don’t necessarily need to post we are in a relationship because others will know by our words and actions. Our feelings and values will show on the Internet because we do have that freedom of speech to post whatever is on our minds.

We need to use the opportunity to speak to others about God in any conversations we have on or off the Internet. We should always act as if we are in a relationship with God. He can give us the strength we need to do and say what He wants us to do. When we are tempted to get into conversations that are not of God on the Internet, we aren’t being the example He wants us to be and we can’t make a difference.

Luke 12:21 “Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.”
