Barbara, a small business owner, sought the advice of a Feng Shui Consultant to find a new office. The day after Barbara cleaned up the entrance to her present office and hung a mirror and a Feng Shui crystal in the entranceway; she received a large order from a customer and won a paid vacation to California.

Feng Shui (pronounced “Fung shway”) literally means ‘wind’ and ‘water’. A Chinese philosophy that is both magical and practical; feng shui is based on the universal laws of nature. The ancient Chinese used feng shui to harness the forces of nature and evaluate land plots. Harmonizing the forces of heaven and earth may seem mystical and esoteric to the average person. However, for five thousand years, the Chinese have believed that by balancing the energies in your environment, you can change your life. “The point of feng shui is to harness and enhance environmental ch’i to improve the flow of ch’i within our bodies, thus improving our life and destiny,” says Professor Lin Yun, the foremost Feng Shui Master in the west.

The basis of feng shui is energy flow. Why is it that some environments feel immediately pleasant; while others may feel uncomfortable? A space that has good feng shui always feels right when you enter it; and its inhabitants experience more vibrant health and greater productivity.

Just as an acupuncturist enhances the flow of energy in your body with needles, a feng shui consultant enhances the flow of ch’i in your home or office with special feng shui adjustments like crystals or windchimes. Everything from the size and shape of your office to the placement of your door, windows, and desk influences the energy flow. Whether you have undesirable feng shui or just want to maximize your space, feng shui cures such as mirrors, crystals, windchimes, plants, fish tanks, and water fountains are placed in key areas to transform your space.

Feng Shui principles can easily be applied to your office. To position your desk for maximum power, creativity, and concentration, you should be in the commanding position of the room. Generally, this would place you with a full view of the door, in an interior spot in the room, with your back to the wall for support. Place a Feng Shui crystal ball over your head hanging from the ceiling to provide an extra boost of energy.

Add some green plants or flowers to bring positive energy to your office. Healthy plants in entranceways and on desks can nourish and support you at work. Indoor water fountains are frequently used to increase the flow of money into a business. Place one in a prominent area of your office. If you are familiar with the BaGua, you can place your fountain in the ‘wealth‘ corner.

When you work in an environment filled with good feng shui, productivity increases, good opportunities arise, and most important of all: You feel better!
