Getting Started

If you haven't been getting much exercise lately then first start out slowly. Set goals that are realistic for you right now. Start from where you are not and slowly add more to your routine over time. Getting a small amount of activity each day is better than doing nothing at all.

Look for ways to be more active in your day-to-day activities. Some easy one's are if you're going a short distance, walk instead of drive. When you do drive try to park a little further away, so your walking to your final destination. Lots of activities around the house to keep you busy pushing a vacuum, mop, mow, rake, or pull weeds. Walk your dog or grab the neighbors if you don't have one. Use exercise bands for an upper body work out while you watch TV. Take short exercise breaks when you're working at your computer. And, finally try some seated leg lifts and some twists and turns for starting to work towards a flatter stomach.

Making an action plan can help you get started. Pick a goal that's realistic for you and that you know you can achieve. Make your plan something you want to do, not something someone else wants you to do. When you reach your goal, give yourself a small reward and then set a new goal.

Getting more exercise in will also give you more energy, reduce your stress, help you relax, and make it easier to have a sound sleep!
