We have all waited in line for something. It is neither always easy nor fun to wait in line but, we believe, it is usually worth the wait. While we are in line waiting we probably grow weary. While we are in line waiting we possibly get bored. While we are in line waiting we may get anxious or even give up. However, if we desire what is at the head of the line, we wait in line until we get what we want or need.

Knowing what we want and having a strong desire to obtain it makes it a little easier to wait in line. Understanding the importance of what we need and why we need it helps while we are waiting in line to keep us from giving up. Finding something to do while we wait gives us opportunities to stay busy while we are reaching our destination.

Although we aren’t always having to wait in line, we find ourselves waiting on something most of the time. We are waiting on that new opportunity at work. We are waiting on our next paycheck. We are waiting for our next vacation. We are waiting until school is out. The list is endless. However, rather than spending our time waiting, we really need to enjoy what we are doing now and make sure what we are doing is in line with what God wants us to do.

Isaiah 28:10 “He tells us everything over and over—one line at a time, one line at a time, a little here, and a little there!”

We need to get in line with God’s will for our lives rather than creating our own lines to wait in. We need to be sure what we are waiting on is where God wants us to wait rather than us waiting for something that is of this world. We need to be sure we are waiting on things that will help others and not give us temporary pleasure. We need to be sure what we are waiting on is what we should be doing for God rather than what we want to be doing for ourselves.

Knowing what line God wants us to wait in comes from having a deep relationship with Him. When we pray and talk with Him all during the day, we will grow closer to Him and begin to hear His words and whispers. When we read His word, we begin to understand what we should and shouldn’t do. When we remove the things of the world we shouldn’t be doing and work toward doing His will, we will know what line we should be in.

When we are in line doing what God wants us to do, we will know it. We will have peace we are doing the right thing. We will have understanding and wisdom about what we are to do. We will have faith and trust in Him to keep us in line knowing He will protect us as we wait and as we take action while we are waiting. When we are in line for God, we will want to do the things He asks us to do rather than doing what we are tempted to do.

In order for us to know how to get in line for God, we need to move closer to Him. We need to start a new practice of waiting in line for the things He wants us to do rather than what we want to do. While we are waiting in line, we need to begin taking action toward the things that will please Him and help others. We need to train ourselves to put Him in every part of our lives so He can change the lines we wait in and we can make a difference.

1 Timothy 4:8 “Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.””
