Psoriasis is a common skin disorder. It involves having thick, white scales on the skin. These scales usually have a red border, which becomes inflamed. Psoriasis is considered an autoimmune disease, meaning that it is an overreaction of immune system which causes this condition.

Research has shown that psoriasis is almost always invariably linked to high levels of arachidonic acid in the blood. Arachidonic acid is an omega six fatty acid whose excess in our bloodstream causes increased levels of inflammation.

Psoriasis is also related to general, irregular fatty acid metabolism in the body.

One of the best ways to counter this pro-inflammatory state of affairs is to take molecularly distilled fish oil capsules daily. Fish oil supplements contain EPA, a polyunsaturated fatty acid that is known to decrease both arachidonic acid and other pro-inflammatory chemicals in the blood (such as the damaging C-reactive protein).

One recent study done in Australia clearly showed that taking a fish oil supplement daily while at the same time avoiding foods high in omega six fatty acids, which cause inflammation, led to a significant improvement in psoriasis symptoms in the majority of people in the study.

The foods that you must avoid first and foremost are margarine, seed oils, corn oil, fried foods and junk foods. By going on a diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, fish, olive oil and whole grains, avoiding or eliminating the aforementioned pro-inflammatory foods and taking a good pharmaceutical grade fish oil supplement every day, you should see an improvement in your psoriasis symptoms within a few months.

Psoriasis, like many other modern ailments and so-called autoimmune diseases, are profoundly related to the modern way of life and eating style. I don't believe that there's a quick fix for psoriasis and anybody who tells you that there is, is probably not to be trusted. After many years of studying the natural health sciences, I have come to the conclusion that the best thing you can do in this situation is to take a holistic approach, including improving your diet, adopting a better, more positive mental outlook, seeking to improve your emotional and social environment and going on a program of proper supplementation that will give you precisely the substances that your body needs. In the case of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, such as psoriasis, the most important thing that you can take is a top-quality molecularly distilled fish oil, proven to be free of contaminants and standardized to a high level of EPA.
