We are all faced with problems in our lives, whether small problems on a day to day basis or great problems that will potentially change your life. It is easy to feel overwhelmed and everything appears daunting, but if you develop a positive outlook small problems become insignificant and then those great big ones seem far more manageable and something that can be overcome.
For me the trick to having a positive outlook is remembering that nothing stays the same. We live in an ever changing Universe and no matter how difficult something feels in this moment it will change.

Here are a few tips to develop and maintain a positive outlook.
1. Decide what is important, analyse the things in your life and see if you are stressing over things that simply have no real importance to you. A good way to do this is to ask yourself, “Will this be important to me this time next year?”

2. Once you know where your priorities lie focus your attention on what you have now, no matter how many changes you may want to see in your life there is always something of value in the present moment.

3. Accept that sometimes things just don't work out as we had planned or hoped, but that doesn't mean they don't work out! Instead of fighting change why not relax into it and see where it takes you?

4. Have faith in yourself, use affirmations and self talk to remind yourself that you have overcome many things in the past and will again. You are capable.

5. Surround yourself with positive things and people whenever possible. There are lots of books, cd's and audios available to help develop a positive outlook, make notes or keep a journal including the things that you find useful from your research. Find people who lift you up and enjoy your time with them. We all have to be around negative people who can drain your energies, but we don't have to join in with their negativity.

6. When you go to sleep each night think of all the positive things that have happened that day, no matter how small. Don't dwell on any negative experiences before bed, make sure this is a time for rest. Remind yourself that each new day is a day with new experiences, new hope and new possibilities.

7. Be present. Constantly reviewing the past will not change it, just as worrying about the future will not make it any different. Whenever you feel yourself becoming caught up in the past or future, bring yourself back to the present moment and breath deeply, affirmations can be really useful, something simple like, “I am calm, I am present”.

It is possible to live in a chaotic world and retain a positive outlook, it may not be easy at times, but the more you practise the more you notice how often what you considered to be a problem was just a negative barrier to change that you put up. Once you release the small stuff you will have far more energy and feel much more positive in your outlook, life's ups and downs will become easier to deal with and dramas be short lived.
