THE POWER OF PRAYER
All of Allah’s commandments were sent down though angel Gibreel (Gabriel) except one. That one was prayer. For this commandment Allah brought Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him) to Him.
THE PROCESS OF PRAYER
The giving of this commandment is related in the story of the Miraculous Night Journey in which the process of prayer was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) from Allah http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzRBVdHL-VY
SALAH (Prayer)
When the Prophet (Peace be Upon Him) was first given the command to pray, it should be 50 times a day.
THE WARNING OF MUSA
However, Musa (Moses) warned that he tried this number but that it was too difficult and cautioned Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him). The Prophet then asked Allah to make it easier. After consideration, the commandment was eventually reduced from 50 to 40 but then eventually down to five. These five are the equivalent of 50.
50 to 5
What is the moral of this story? This process reinforces the central role, the crucial role and the priority prayer should have in the life of a person. Also it is the lowest number that is acceptable in God’s eyes.
PRAYER POINT
Could you pray 50 times a day? Could you even pray every day five times a day?
Imagine praying 50 times a day. What impact would that have on our day? Could we really do all the other things that are necessary for life if we devoted time for 50 times? Would more people turn away from Allah? If you feel that way then you have grasped Allah’s point. Fifty times is what Allah wants and this is what Allah says our life should be filled up with.
LIFE’S TRUE PURPOSE
Life’s true purpose is to pray. This is the lesson we learn when God originally said we must pray 50 times per day. We talk about social life but actually prayer life should be the first priority of our social life. We talk about love life but our first love should be Allah.
THE COVENANT BETWEEN MAN AND GOD
Prayer should not be squeezed into our day. Prayer should be the top priority of the day and there is no negotiation on this because the negotiation has already taken place. Not less than five is the compromise.
LIFE SHOULD RESOLVE AROUND PRAYER
Prayer is the very purpose of our existence. To repeat: our life should resolve around prayer, not that prayer resolves around our lives. Prayer is our life purpose and your life purpose.
PUT PRAYER AT THE TOP OF YOUR MIND
Prayer is a need of the soul, just as going to the toilet is a need of the body. You have to regard prayer as that important and that necessary.
SOUL LIFE
If we did not feed our bodies we would die. But when we don’t pray we starve our souls and soul becomes lifeless. Our soul is equally important. When Jesus said we do not live by bread alone, Jesus was right. Prayer is the food for our souls.
