One of the common complaints I hear from women entrepreneurs is that they avoid focusing on the top-income producing tasks in their business. They habitually occupy themselves with busy work that doesn’t result in higher paying clients or more income in the door.

Here is a simple tip you can use to move from feeling stuck and frustrated to getting motivated and staying on track with the very tasks that you’ve been putting off or avoiding.

Think in terms of micro movements. Several years ago on my talk radio show I was interviewing SARK, an international best-selling author who has written countless books on being an artist and connecting with creativity. She confessed to me that she was the world’s greatest procrastinator. I was shocked to hear this because she is such a prolific writer.

When I asked her what her secret was she shared that she would focus on taking what she called “micro movements” throughout her day. She went on to explain that this might be something as simple as setting a goal that would take just 1 to 2 minutes to accomplish (as opposed to 30 minutes or an hour).

For instance, one day one of her micro movements might be to get out her colored pens and drawing paper and place them on her drawing table.

The next day one of her micro movements might be to sit down and write for five minutes. Another day it might be to make a 5-minute call to her publishing company. I was impressed and quite excited to hear about her unique strategy.

Since my interview with SARK I have used her micro movement strategy countless times when I felt unmotivated.

Sometimes I would give myself five minutes to create a rough draft for a sales page, or five minutes to follow up with a particular prospect. Or during times when I felt particularly unmotivated with completing a writing project I would tell myself that all I had to do was spend 10 minutes writing an article. I would literally set the timer and tell myself I could stop writing as soon as my time was up.

It has been absolutely invaluable for me in moving forward with my business. My original commitment to spend five minutes would often turn into 30 minutes as I tapped in to my innate energy and momentum for the project I was working on. After coaching one of my clients about this particular strategy she went on to create $2,500 from a one-minute micro movement that she had been inspired to take. Not only that but I have achieved 5-figure pay-days from integrating this simple strategy!

So next time you’re feeling unmotivated or overwhelmed pause for a moment and break your tasks down into small bite-size micro movements.
