Reiki is a spiritual training developed by Mikao Usui in Japan in 1922 after he came across the power of Reiki on a retreat in Mount Kurama. Mikao Usui gave birth to the Reiki revolution in Tokyo, leaving it to expand and circulate across the universe to improve and enhance the lives of communities globally by spiritual healing. There are 5 beliefs or theories in this practice called Gokai which are principles that are observed and conformed by most Reiki practitioners and devotees. And these are: do not worry, be grateful, work with integrity, do not be angry, and be kind to other people.

It's widely believed that to help in the evolution of soul and body one must go through this list each and every morning and evening. This practice could also often be confused or mistaken as being a form of religion; nevertheless, it is just a spiritual technique which could be practiced on just about anybody coming from any belief system or background. Reiki is presently performed or practiced by thousands and has received both criticisms and praises along its path and pursuit of healing and development in a spiritual sense. Albeit no scientific proof could attest the positive workings of Reiki, it is still viewed as a safe and natural complementary technique.

Okay, so how does it work, exactly? This practice makes use of spiritual energy in order to make a healing effect on body, spirit and mind. When you visit a Reiki professional, you would be instructed to lie down clothed on a massage table and relax. There would be little or no talking involved during the treatment and the practitioner would either hold their hands a few centimeters away from your body or he or she would put his hands on you on different positions. When we have low energy, we tend to become stressed and sick. Energy passes through the hands of the practitioners and helps in the increase of the energy in the affected areas.

Approximately, there are 20 positions in Reiki which could be utilized and a complete treatment could last up until 90 minutes in length. A warm sensation in the treated zone as well as a feeling of deep relaxation could be experienced during and after a Reiki session. Inducting self-improvement and spiritual healing, it has been viewed as a positive technique for minimizing stress, relieving side effects and fostering recovery with or without the aid or assistance of medical treatment. However, one must always consult a medical physician before trying to book a session with a practitioner if chronic sickness exists or suspected.

Ongoing sessions are normally needed for improved results and it is important to have at least 3 sessions when a chronic illness is being addressed. Reiki must never be identified as a total replacement for medical treatment but instead as a complementary technique to medical treatment. A simple and easy Reiki practice can definitely be worth giving a shot if self improvement and well being are part of your to-do list for the year.
