There are many opportunities in life where we need to take action quickly in order not to miss out on a particular experience. There are certain situations where if we don’t move in an allotted amount of time, we will lose out. There are instances where we have chances to take to make a difference and we if waste too much time, the chance will pass us by.
If we think about it, we all have the ability to move quickly. We all have certain situations where we really have a strong desire to go somewhere. There may be a sale on our favorite store. There may be a concert playing that we don’t want to miss. There may be a company giving away prizes if we go during a certain time of day.
Whatever the reason, we all have the capabilities of creating an urgency to get things done. We may be about to go on vacation and we have to finish up things at work. We may be having company come over to our house and we have to get things cleaned up and ready. We may be moving and have a lot of items to clean out and throw away. How quick we respond depends on how much time we have.
The truth is we never really know how much time we have. We may believe we have a certain number of days or hours to get things done. We may think if we don’t do them we won’t have a chance to do them again. We get motivated by what it is we are trying to accomplish and we don’t let anything stand in our way to accomplish it.
Philippians 2:12-13 “Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.”
What if we looked at the things in all areas of our lives with that same urgency? What if we looked at our priorities and what God wants us to do and created that same sense of urgency we have when we don’t want to miss out on other things. We need to find out what end results God wants us to have and create that same urgency to do His will.
We need to look at the importance of our current urgencies and determine if they are line with what God wants us to do. We need to be aware of our actions and what we get excited about doing in our daily lives which gives us a sense of urgency. We need to pray about these things and ask God if our urgencies are His priorities for our lives.
If we aren’t careful, we will focus too much on the urgencies we feel are important rather than doing the things God wants us to do. When we take action on all of our urgencies, we may get ahead a little further in life, but what we really need to think about how the things we feel are so important in this world are going to be valued in eternity.
When we use all our time fulfilling our needs and doing the things we believe are important in life, we miss out on what God wants us to do. We need to be sure we are prioritizing the important things with God’s priorities for us rather than our own. If we use our time to hurry to do the things the world is concerned about, we are really just wasting our time and God’s time. We don’t know how much time we have to make a difference so we need to create a sense of urgency to do God’s will.
Psalm 39:4-5 “Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered— how fleeting my life is. You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath.”
