Are you dizzy from all of the health information you get each and every day? How do you sort it all out? How do you know what’s right from wrong? I get to watch and listen too (and get a little dizzy from time to time). However, experience as a Doctor has given me the gift to understand that while science and information changes around us at lightening fast speed, the body remains an incredibly consistent and simple “machine” to operate.

What I’m suggesting is that the body’s requirements for proper, healthy functioning hasn’t changed much over the last several thousand years. What HAS changed is our environment and our lifestyle. Our environment is increasingly complex and is loaded with thousands of chemicals and toxins our planet has never seen before. This toxic environment, coupled with the necessary “evils” of mass produced clean food and water nearly void of nutritional content, creates a tremendous strain on our consistent, usually well-adapted bodies.

The stresses and strains of “civilized” life drives our body chemistry quickly towards inflammation, degeneration, and disease. As if all of this wasn’t enough to bear, I give you the single greatest challenge to your health and well-being. It’s YOU! I say this not to place blame, but merely to point out two important pieces of information that you MUST HAVE to regain and maintain your health in this life, on this planet, at this time:

1. You must recognize that your body chemistry is 100% unique in every way; and you must learn how to eat and care for this unique body in the way(s) that are most beneficial to it. There is no “one-size fits all” in caring for your health. The blurbs you read about on the evening crawl or see flashed in front of you on the web are just pieces of information; they must be considered within the context of your unique chemistry (blood type, metabolic type, age, gender, race, past history, lifestyle, etc.). NEVER wrap yourself in blanket statements!

2. You can create the experience you wish to have in this lifetime. You’re in control. Like many, you’re probably lacking the knowledge and the direction to get where you want to be. Recognizing that you have control over your health is most critical. If you acknowledge this concept, then the next reality is, the choices that you make, small and large, will affect your body’s outcome which is health or disease.

With the knowledge of these 2 concepts, you’ll need to have a process by which you can learn, engage, change and control your own health and your own destiny, to set goals and achieve them. If your plan is to keep trying different supplements for your health problems, you’ll likely fail at eliminating the cause of the problem and the symptoms will never resolve. Granted, the symptoms may feel better for a period of time, but will likely return, and to a greater degree. Health comes from you, not to you. It must be cultivated and cared for. Results will be steady, but you must know the path to take…but how do you know when there are so many?

I suggest you find yourself a health and wellness coach, a person with the knowledge and skills to help you evaluate where your health lies today, what your needs, challenges, and goals are. Pair with that coach who will set you on a path that will take you where you want to be. You can self-medicate, but you likely can’t achieve total health on your own. (I have health coaches and doctors, too!)

I urge you to take your life and your health seriously, to find someone who cares about you and can help you achieve the health and well-being you desire, and deserve.
