What do you do when you are sick or in pain and the doctor has no solution? Too much stress in your life can causes many health complaints and bring on a variety of illnesses such as migraines, high blood pressure, asthma, insomnia or burnout. What do you do when life is going too fast and your energy level and overall health are deteriorating? Try something holistic that is good for your body, mind, and soul: Reiki.
Reiki is an up and coming alternative holistic treatment that helps put you backon the road to health. It is a simple, yet profound system of natural healing where the healer’s hands are placed on the fully clothed person to invite healing. Universal energy is channeled through the hands of the healer to the affected areas and very often the condition is lessened or healed. It works on all 4 levels of the body: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.
You Heal Yourself
It is all about balancing energy. The world “slimes” you with exposure to violence, hate, fear, greed and struggle and the body cannot help but pick up these negative effects and carry them along the way. Reiki helps to rebalance the body, give more vitality and heal parts of the whole person that need healing. It is like putting the body, mind and soul through an energy car wash that cleans off all the dirt and grime we pick up from being out in the world.
The person who has Reiki treatments done to them only has to sit or lie down, fully clothed, and the practitioner puts his or her hands on the energy centers of the body called (chakras). If there are complaints, special attention is given to those areas of the body. The person does not have to believe in Reiki or have any particular religious beliefs, but just to be open to the possibility that healing can occur.
The interesting thing about Reiki is that it is not new age or scary, but a gentle process of letting your body heal itself with the help of the practitioner. He or she is just the facilitator for YOU to draw the necessary healing energy and distribute it according to where it is needed in your own body. You are not consciously aware of this healing as it takes place, but your body knows where healing needs to occur. That is why “overdosing” of energy or transmitting the wrong kind of energy is not possible during Reiki treatments.
Reiki is beneficial to all people young and old. Busy mothers, pregnant women, restless babies, children, the elderly and businesspeople find relief and more peace of mind after treatments.
Corporate Reiki offers people in the workplace environment the opportunity to have a short healing session that restores energy, health and balance in order to be more productive and focused as work.
Reiki as a Medical Intervention
Reiki therapy is safe and non-invasive. It is proving useful in hospices, nursing homes, emergency rooms, operating rooms, organ transplantation care units, pediatric, neonatal and OB/GYN units; facilitating relaxation and recovery and decreasing anxiety and pain; it can be a helpful addition to conventional therapy for HIV/AIDS and cancer patients.
According to Pamela Miles of Reikiinmedicine.org, Reiki has no known medical contraindications and safely supports any medical intervention without interference because Reiki operates at a very subtle level. Pharmaceutical medication and surgery are directed at specific targets within the body (tumor cells, invading pathogens, blocked vessels, specific receptors or metabolic pathways).
In contrast, Reiki does not attack disease, it balances the person experiencing the disease. When an invasive medical intervention is necessary, such as surgery or medications that have side effects, Reiki helps the body rebalance so that it can heal more efficiently.
People using Reiki during chemotherapy, for example, report fewer and lighter side effects of treatment, and greater emotional equilibrium than when they received chemo without Reiki. As has already been demonstrated for acupuncture and some
mind/body interventions, Reiki may help support the body's ongoing function as it undergoes chemotherapy. Many patients feel it is worthwhile to either learn Reiki or receive treatment simply because it helps them feel better.
With regard to pregnancy, there are many medical studies that show that Reiki is beneficial to the mother and the unborn baby. During pregnancy, tests conducted at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut, USA shows that Reiki used during pregnancy reduced anxiety by 94 percent, nausea by 80 percent, pain by 78 percent and improved sleep by 86 percent.
Reiki is an alternative form of healing that can assist a person to take charge of their own health and wellness through simple touch and energy balance. Try a Reiki session to see for yourself the healing power of touch.
