I know good is stronger than evil, no matter what the appearance. It may not always be as dramatic, but it prevails even in the most horrific circumstances. Just witness the heroism and outpouring of caring and compassion that has bound us together following the events of September 11 in New York and Washington, D.C.

If our family of humankind confined together on this spaceship Earth is to live together in a peaceful world, we need to pay attention to and care for one another with understanding, kindness and respect, and not just in times of crisis.

We’re all fibers in this human quilt that isn’t confined to the borders of any one country. While we mourn as a nation and with those who are suffering profound personal loss, I pray this experience will make us more compassionate of the suffering common to others in distant places as well as within our own boundaries.

What kind of thinking is a force for good in the world? This is a good time to look at the quality of our own thinking, our personal attitudes and beliefs, and make constructive adjustments. If there’s going to be a positive and permanent change in the world, it will ultimately have to be in changing minds and hearts and not in blowing up buildings.

Each of us has a gift to give and an important contribution to make. We can start by being and doing what we want to have and experience. We can show more love and compassion. We can reach out to others, not only our family and friends, but to people we work with and people we service through our work.

I honor the BE, DO, HAVE philosophy. First I must BE that which I want to have. Then I must DO all that I being. Then I will Have what I am. For instance, if I want love....I must BE love and DO love to HAVE love as the experience of my life.

We can't BE, DO, Have for anyone else. It must begin with each of us. From there it flows out to those around us and beyond. Evil cannot stand against the power of love we can generate.
