Today, anti aging therapy is a rapidly growing area in medicine. What is anti aging therapy?

To begin with, scientists do not have an answer or a so-called "magic bullet," to revere the effects of aging. There are some therapies that have shown some signs of anti aging effects, but it is still a strong belief that the best way to effectively extend life is through diet and exercise. Food creates energy and energy allows the body to produce free radicals. Free radicals contribute to certain diseases and the aging process.

In order to neutralize free radicals, the body fights with antioxidants like vitamins, minerals and enzymes. Thee come from the food that we eat. It is believed that these antioxidants can prevent diseases including heart and diabetes. Examples of antitoxins are Vitamins A, B-6, and B-`1, C, E, Beta-carotene, folic acid and selenium. These antitoxins are found in most fruits and vegetables and can also be taken as supplements to a diet. Although, many researchers believe that supplements are not effective in improving health and extending life.

Replacing hormones that naturally reduce with age is another theory that some believe will reverse the aging process. DHEA is an acronym for dehydropiandrosterone - the most plentiful androgenic hormone produced by the adrenal glands. At birth, DHEA levels are high and slowly decline throughout life. Researchers have found a way to replace natural DHEA with a synthetic hormone that may have a positive effect on muscle mass and the immune system.

Other anti-aging supplements include Testosterone that can increase energy and sex drive, melatonin that helps regulate sleep and enhances sexuality, HGH (Human Growth Hormone that, when injected, helps burn fat, build muscle and build energy.

Keep in mind; these hormonal supplements don't come without warnings and side effects. Women who take estrogen to relieve menopausal systems have experienced an increase in blood clots, heart disease, heart attacks and breast cancer. Short-term use of DHEA or testosterone has been shown to cause liver damage.

And any supplement that you take, might react adversely with other medications that you are taking, so be sure to consult with a physician before considering or taking any anti-aging therapy.
