That someone is your personal coach!

That is the secret to the taking your personal performance to the next level.

The importance of having a great coach:
The importance of outstanding coaches has been visible in Olympic and professional sports for decades. At these levels of performance, physical ability is certainly important, but the difference between competitors is very small. The primary difference between being the champion and the loser is mental.

Both Nadia Comaneci and Kerri Strug left Bela Karolyi as their head coach, only to return to him when they found no one else could bring out so much of their potential. The Olympic competitors to Nadia Comaneci, Mary Lou Retton and Kerri Strug were all as physically talented, but the common factor for these Olympic gymnastic champions was Bela Karolyi who elevated their mental abilities above those of their opponents.

The value of a great coach:
The owner of the San Francisco 49’ers, Eddie De Bartolo Jr., wanted to win Super Bowls, knew he had players as great as those of other NFL teams and knew the value of an outstanding head coach. He first hired Bill Walsh and then George Seifert. As a result, from 1981 to 1994 the 49’ers won 5 Super Bowl Championships, more than any other team in history. Three were under Head Coach Bill Walsh (two of them back-to-back) and two were underead Coach George Seifert. The peak mental performance concepts utilized at Performance Unlimited were learned directly from the mental coach that worked with Walsh's Super Bowl winning teams. These mental techniques were reapplied to George Seifert's Super Bowl winning teams.

After the last 49’ers Super Bowl win, the frustrated Denver Broncos realized the value of a head coach and hired George Seifert's understudy, Mike Shanahan, the offensive coordinator for the Super Bowl winning 49’ers. After being with the 49'ers, Head Coach Shanahan knew how to win Super Bowls and took the Broncos to win two Super Bowls, back-to-back.

The hallmark of a great Head Coach:
Repeated successes with different athletes is the what distinguishes outstanding coaches like those above and Vince Lombardi, winner of Super Bowls I & II (back- to-back). “He focused on teamwork and understood that if you treat people with respect and treat them like winners, they will perform as winners. The cornerstone of Vince Lombardi's teaching methods were commitment, sacrifice, and mental toughness, three attributes which continue to be stressed by many of today's successful coaches and by many successful business people as well,?according to his son, Vince Lombardi, Jr.

Don Shula holds a unique record among the great coaches with repeated victories. He is the only NFL coach to ever win game after game to achieve a perfect winning season ending in a Super Bowl victory. Together, all of these great coaches are responsible for 10 of 33 Super Bowl Champions.

Top Performers Seek Great Head Coaches:
Just as Nadia Comaneci and Kerri Strug left other coaches to return to Bela, Michael Jordan knew that only his Head Coach Phil Jackson, winner of three NBA back-to-back championships, could bring out the ultimate potential within Michael. Consequently, when Phil decided to leave the Chicago Bulls, Michael choose to leave the sport saying he would not play for any other coach.

A Great “Head?Coach’s Function:
The successes of all of these outstanding Head Coaches are demonstrations of the proven psychological concepts for achieving peak personal performance and peak experiences presented on this site. In this regard, a “Head?coach's primary functions are:
-Build self-esteem to increase performance
-Build personal belief in achievement of success
-Orchestrate continuous improvement in quality of performance
-Elevate performance to achieve realization of full potential resulting in peak experiences of self-actualization

Why have a personal “head?coach:
A personal coach is necessary to accelerate your achievement of personal and business goals. As Dr. Edward Deming, originator of Total Quality Management, observed:
“A system can not know itself. You must have an observer to see what you cannot see.? A great coach not only observes, but identifies opportunities to improve performance that accelerates and/or increases achievement of goals. Even more important, an outstanding coach maintains an environment that fosters strong self-motivation.

It's YOUR LIFE and YOUR SUCCESS, so choose your personal coach with great care using the guidelines above.
