One of the most frequent questions I get from my more spiritual clients is, “How can I reach my highest potential?”

Not surprisingly, your lifestyle habits and preferences contribute substantially to whether or not you ever reach your highest potential. To do so, you must be in peak physical, mental, emotional and spiritual condition.

Let’s examine 4 ways you can optimize your lifestyle to reach more of your Highest Potential:

1. Heed the nudges to change

Whether you like it or not, change is happening. You cannot achieve your highest potential from a low vibration. Vibrationally our bodies are changing to try and keep up with the higher vibrations coming onto the planet at this time. Without wanting to sound too ‘woo-woo’ and ‘out there’, many of us are feeling these changes physically, but without necessarily comprehending what is happening.

Some of the symptoms you may be experiencing are unexplained tiredness, increased sensitivity to certain foods, alcohol and other chemicals and sometimes feeling as if you are on an emotional rollercoaster. All part of your body vibrating at a higher level and sloughing off the old denser energies.

Now whether you believe that the body has an innate healing wisdom that constantly seeks to rebalance the body, or whether you believe in guidance and nudges received from your guides or angels, or maybe all of the above, doesn’t really matter. The urge to change is real. It is far more powerful than just a toxic liver needing a bit of a detox, or feeling the effects of ageing. How are you being called to change?

2. Have the courage to change your diet if necessary

Even so-called healthy foods, such as meat, may be unappealing to you now and just sit heavily in your stomach, even though you once loved tucking in to a big juicy steak. How about that glass of wine or bottle of beer? Does alcohol now seem to adversely affect you much more than it used to? Are you feeling bloated and uncomfortable after eating products with white flour such as bread and pastas? God forbid, don’t tell me that chocolate, your favorite food, now makes you feel tired and depressed soon after eating it!

Instead, honor that your body is likely to be craving more high-vibration, high life-force foods such as organic fruit and vegetables, nuts, seeds, wholegrains and lighter proteins such as fish. You may even be moving towards a vegetarian diet.

You may already be finding that all the low vibration foods such as sugar, chocolate, processed foods, junk foods and alcohol simply don’t agree with your body anymore, resulting in physical and emotional symptoms such as sluggishness, tiredness shortly after eating, bloating, depression or even mood swings, to name a few. If you recognize your own symptoms above, then it is time to re-evaluate your diet and really be observant to which foods your body is telling you to cut out by noticing how you feel within a couple of hours of eating them. They may even be foods that common wisdom deems to be healthy, yet they do not suit your personal vibration.

Maybe in the past you were able to get away with drinking a liter of soft drink a day, but much as you hate to admit it, your body just doesn’t want to do that anymore and it lets you know about it with uncomfortable feelings. Notice how water is becoming so much more appealing and makes you feel so much better than sugary or carbonated drinks.

3. Get off the couch!

Have you enjoyed much of your life as a ‘couch potato’? Sorry, my friend, but those inner urges you are getting to exercise more just won’t go away, no matter how much you resist them, especially if you are serious about achieving your highest potential. Your body needs to stretch and move and be active to continue to shift your vibration higher, as well as allowing you to feel more energized and toned. You don’t have to become a gym junkie to benefit from exercise. Maybe just some stretching and developing core strength in a yoga class, walks in the local park, cycling or strength training. The number of ways to get active is limited only by your imagination. A great place to start is by turning off the television and computer!

4. Meditate and find inner stillness

How often I’ve heard, “I’ve tried to meditate, but I just couldn’t switch my mind off, so I gave up.” Don’t despair! Even experienced meditators can have an off-day. The main thing is to develop a regular time, preferably daily, to take time out to be still, breathe deeply and then follow your meditation technique of choice. I recommend for beginners listening to a guided visualization, as it keeps the mind occupied, yet is deeply relaxing. Breath awareness meditation is also great for switching off an over-active mind as you focus on counting up to a particular number on the in-breath and similarly on the out-breath. The more experienced you get, the more you can find that inner still point in your body and focus on that. Insight meditation is a fabulous way to receive higher guidance that answers your most baffling questions from a higher perspective. It can also give you deep answers to what actions you should be taking to move you towards your highest potential.

Conclusion

Of course this is just a sample of the ways you can be moving steadily towards your highest potential. A positive attitude, feeling gratitude for all the good things in your life, self-nurturing, fostering loving relationships, forgiveness and healing the past are also important in raising your vibration and reaching more of your highest potential.

Learn to listen to your body as well as to that still, small voice within that connects you to the wisdom of the Divine. Heed the messages to change to find greater alignment with your highest potential.
