Executive Coaching is a collaborative partnership between a middle- to upper-level leader, his/her organization, and an executive coach. The purpose of this partnership is:
• To facilitate both the leader's and the organization's learning
• To develop key core leadership mindsets, competencies, and skills
• To attract, retain, and develop the best talent
• To build a culture supportive of the organization's mission
• To foster networks across organizations to address complex, multi-sectoral issues and challenges
• To achieve identified business results
A successful coaching partnership is composed primarily of one-on-one interactions between a leadership coach and a leader and is supported, as needed, by others. Components that assist in making the Executive Coaching engagement successful include the following:
• It is based on agreed-upon ground rules, time frames, and specific goals and measures of success.
• The coaching partnership uses tailored goals and approaches, including:
In our view, effective Executive Coaching is coaching that creates the right behavioral changes that lead to improvement in the individual's ability to impact bottom-line business results.
As we know, Executive Leadership Coaching has grown in popularity over the last several decades. There are many reasons for this. One of the primary reasons is that leaders are being asked to demonstrate strategic business acumen and at the same time be masters of the "soft" skills required to effectively lead and manage people. In addition, factors and relationships that can support personal development and learning, an absolute must for effective leadership, are often lacking due to the pace and degree of change within companies. Executive coaches, among other professionals, have stepped into this gap, being tasked with helping to guide leaders and managers towards improvement. In general, masterful coaching appears to be a valuable tool to support learning and development.
Human capital is now being viewed as an organizational investment in a knowledge economy versus an organizational cost. Executive Leadership Coaching is a valuable and powerful tool for organizations who want to develop and shift the leadership capacity and competencies of its management talent.

When asked about the secret of his success, Wayne Gretsky, one of history's greatest professional hockey players replied, "I skate to where the puck is going to be, not where the puck has been."
As leaders, we all need to develop our skills and talents to move,
influence and impact, where the business, products and services and the
puck is going to be.
