Toby Klein Greenwald has been involved in areas of creativity since childhood and throughout her professional life. She is a native English speaker originally from Cleveland, Ohio, a past student of French, and speaks and writes Hebrew at the mother tongue level. Today she lives in Israel but is involved in worldwide projects through the web.
In the area of education, she has worked as a teacher and author of creative educational programs (with a speciality in teaching creative writing and theater arts, including to the gifted and talented, and to children who are learning disabled and/or AD(H)D).
She is a writer, poet, translator (Hebrew to English), editor, playwright, journalist, and a director of theater productions (with a sub-specialty in community theater). She is the co-founder and editor-in-chief of the award-winning family website, WholeFamily.com. She has co-authored a self-help marital novel with Dr. Michael Tobin, which has been published in Hebrew and German. The book will be titled On the Threshold in English.
She is a photographer and a photojournalist.
Toby studied Playback Theater under Jo Salas, one of the masters, and today lectures on Improvisation and Playback Theater in the Department of Expressive Arts Therapy at Jerusalem College for Women, and at the Aspaklaria Theater School. She is one of the founders and the drama director of the Raise Your Spirits Summer Stock Company (www.raiseyourspirits.com), a founding partner of Bible Arts Productions (www.bible-arts.com) and the Producing Director of the Dor L'Dor Theater Troupe. Plays she has co-authored include Esther and the Secrets in the King's Court, Noah! Ride the Wave! and Ruth & Naomi in the Fields of Bethlehem. She was the first trainer of the Playback Theater of Gush Etzion and today is an actress in the group (www.playbackgushetzion.com).
She recently translated, from Hebrew into English, the book In the Land of Prayer, Personal Tefillot [prayers] from Israel in Turbulent Times. She was the translator and editor of Quest for Identity, and is currently working on the editing of the books Stories for my Grandchildren, by Rabbi Shlomo Riskin, and the Golden Pens of Gush Etzion.
Her articles and poetry have been widely published.
Awarded the Ohr Torah Stone Ulpana Shavei Rachel Award for “Leadership in Jewish Education and for the creative use of drama in the transmission of Judaism to the next generation”.
