Writing poetry is the most relaxing thing I've ever done, besides sleeping. Scroll down

Self help: You Do It Yourself
Nobody can do it for you, you must do it yourself. You
can read all the books, talk to all the experts, but they
can't do anything 'for' you. Any improvments that are
made 'to' you, are done 'by' you.
It's also true that no one can make you angry. I'm sure
you've heard the saying:
'So and so made me angry'. NOT!! You allow yourself
to become angry. No one can make you do anything,
unless they have electrodes attached to you.
If someone told you to do something, that you didn't
want to do, and you refused, it was you that decided
not to do it. If they demanded that you do it, and again
you refused, it was you that decided not to.
If they slapped you and told you to do it but you refused
to do it, it was your decision not to. If they continued to
slap you, until you did it, it was your decision to finally do
it. You no longer wanted to suffer the pain and decided
to do it, but it was 'your' decision to do it. No one can
make you do anything, you do it yourself. That's
basically what self help is all about.

Anyone can write poetry - as long as you have: pen, paper, typewriter or even a computer.
Years ago, all I had was a pen and a spiral notebook. A dictionary is helpfull, but not
necessary. I've discovered that it's quicker for me to go to
www.google.com type in a word and if it's spelled wrong, the correct
spelling is shown.
I've written a few hundred poems, many of which are on my website: www.poetry-tjdaniels.com/contents.html .
Using one of the last poems that I wrote, I'll show you how easy it is.
I live in an apartment building and our maintance crew threw a surprize
birthday party for Kim, our apartment manager. She had reached the BIG
5-0. I didn't have time to buy her a gift or even a card, so I thought
that I would attempt to write a poem for her. The first couple of lines
were easy:
You're a year older
than you were this same time last year
(and since I'm about 20 years older than she, I wanted her to keep her spirits up so I wrote:
but have no fear
it just keeps getting better
It was then I realized that the first verse was complete!! And it made
sense!! Then I gave some thought to some thoughts that I've had myself
and wrote the next few lines:
And I know you wouldn't want to go back
'cause going through it once
was enough.
Now so far this poem was untitled... until I read the last 3 words.
'Once Was Enough' and the title was created!! Great!! I handed this
poem to her, she read it, smiled at me and gave me a 'thumbs up' and
said: 'You're right! Once was enough!'
I had written this poem as she was opening her cards and gifts and asked her if she
minded if I added another verse, as I had remembered a few other
thoughts that I had had as I aged, and she said she didn't mind. The
last verse:
Although there were a few times
you might not mind revisiting
now and then
After she read that last verse, she smiled, nodded and told me that I was right. There were a few times...
Poem complete!!

"ONCE WAS ENOUGH"
You're a year older
than you were this same time last year
but have no fear
it just keeps getting better.
And I know you wouldn't want to go back
'cause going through it once
was enough.
Although there were a few times
you might not mind revisiting
now and then.

Poetry for people that dont even like poetry & those that do. Short &
'To The Point' poetry about heartfelt Love, Life & the heartfelt pain that
love can sometimes bring etc.
It's been said that T. J. Daniels' poetry has a Shakespearean innocence,
a gentle tone. His collection of poetry continues to grow, and blossom.
Each word opening up like a petal, revealing new delights. Each thorn of
pain and sorrow, expressed so beautifully truthful. He brings to light the
vulnerability that is accompanied with love. Love is not the only subject
that he writes about, but one that everyone can relate to.
