Steve currently works in orthopaedic sports physical therapy, and owns the Human Performance Institute. His primary focus is teaching exercise prescription and nutrition to young athletes post rehab and to those that are college or professional sport bound. The Human Performance Institute was developed for young athletes needing a place to strengthen weakened muscles, improve balance, proprioception, flexibility through movement-oriented training, and proper execution of powerlifting techniques. Understanding the developmental stages of children is crucial to the success of any business that works with this age group. The rate of obesity in youth in North America is rising significantly, therefore, without labeling these young people the programs are designed to attract all shapes and sizes. Parents are concerned about the lack of programs in the communities, the lack of supervision, and the decrease of activity-based programs in the schools, many of which are taught by unspecialized teachers. Steve has devised programs for all age groups that follow a well structured format that enables the youth to progress and build confidence. The programs have been popular enough to get attention of the parents and other adults, which has led to programs for the "older" population.
Steve has a masters degree in psychotherapy (psychology), with emphasis on health; physical therapy, drug education, strength and conditioning certification, and is a nutritional advisor through the International Society of Sports Nutrition.
He has experience in many arenas, including the National Hockey League, Major League Baseball, American & Canadian Volleyball Asociations, National Football League, Canadian Football League, American Indoor Football League, Sport Canada, Hungarian National Waterpolo & Volleyball Teams, various university and high school coaching.
Steve has been an athlete his whole life and passes on the experience and knowledge he has acquired to his own children and others he coaches/ teaches creating the champions of tomorrow.
If you keep doing what you've always been doing, you're going to get exactly what you've been receiving!
Without challenge, there is no change!
If you want any kind of results, you have to make sure you change from the inside out. It's about mind-set. You have to retrain the subconscious brain, not the conscious brain. Habits are more powerful than any of our wants and desires. Practicing and developing a skill isn't just about the physical body, but it is also about the mind. If we can train the whole athlete, which includes the mind, then we will be creating "super athletes." This all begins at the subconscious level.
Understanding of the anatomical and physiological properties of the body is crucial to the success of the athlete. Without proper guidance, how is the athlete to benefit 100% from the program? Many programs are promoting injury in the athletes, especially youth, and teaching improper techniques with poor supervision. What's the benefit? Injury can be guaranteed! This is uncalled for and borders on abuse!
We see too many inured athletes in the medical field that could have been avoided through proper training regimens and proper movement-oriented flexibility routines.
