Ron Worthy
Pianist/Songwriter
Ron is a native Washingtonian and has always loved music. His formal study of piano began at the age of four. While attending Duke Ellington School of the Arts at Western in Washington, DC, he co-founded “The Young Senators,” a Rhythm and Blues ensemble. This popular dance-band performed throughout the Washington Metropolitan Area, and eventually became the “back-up” Band for Motown’s Eddie Kendricks of “The Temptations” fame. He went on to study music in college and was awarded a Special Talent Scholarship at Howard University.
Professional Experience
Musical career spans more than a two decades as a bandleader, musical director, arranger and songwriter. His formal education coupled with an innate talent has enabled him to orchestrate and assemble intricate musical scores to support numerous celebrated movie and recording artists.
Experience includes performances with the following music, stage and screen performing artists: Frank Hooker & Positive People, Roscoe Lee Brown, Esther Rolle, Brock Peters, Cecily Tyson, Pookie Hudson & the Spaniels, Baby Washington, Shep & the Limelights, The Soul Children, and Cab Calloway. Performance with Vegas East Band and Show at the Washington DC’s J.W. Marriott Hotel for the 1994 Emmy Awards Celebration Party. He served as the Music Director of the “Open Mic” at Silver Spring, MD’s T.J. Remington’s/Bailey’s.
Today, Ron continues to perform both solo and ensemble adult contemporary music for some of the Washington Metropolitan Area’s finest Hotels, Country Clubs, Restaurants and Private Parties. Most recently, he has performed with “Destiny” Jazz Quartet, providing “slick and sassy” keyboard renderings for some of WJZW Jazzy 105.9 FM radio-sponsored Wine Festivals and “After-Work” parties. He was awarded the prestigious title, “Musician in Residence” at the Kennedy Center, in celebration of the Millennium.
