All my life I have been curious. Sometimes this landed me in a whole lot of trouble. However, it also drove me to gain my qualifications and to constructively question and investigate everything I was exposed to in my life.
Staring with the physical world and the practical science of engineering, I moved onto the Cosmos and the theories of relativity and quantum mechanics.
Having done that I ended up with the most absorbing and challenging subject known, the human mind.
It is so simple and yet so complex and complicated that it can never be fully documented or understood. But it can be experienced and harnessed.
My book and website www.abm3mindmasters.com explain how to do this and I have dedicated myself to helping you to re-discover who you really are, increasing your mind power in the process and most of all having a lot of fun doing so.
The website allows you to get a good feel for the range of material and content available. Please do contact us if you would like any more detail or further information.
Introduction The human mind is impossible to fully understand. This is because there is always an X factor where it is concerned. The basis of this is more fully covered in the notes on the big picture and the environment towards the end of the book. You need to be aware of this however, you should not let it stand in the way of your gaining as full and useful an insight into your mind as possible. For your mind is at the very core of what makes you what you are, a member of the most advanced form of life on this planet and possibly of anywhere else that we know of. It is not probable that we are the most advanced life form in this universe or the multi-verse which is more recently being referred to by some scientists. Statistically and mathematically the probability is that there is a more advanced life-form out there, somewhere in the multi-verse. If we are the most advanced life form overall, then we need to look out because we haven’t done a very good job to date! Of course we are also the greatest scourge on the planet as well. Just about all the major avoidable destruction and defacement on this Earth is caused by us, the human race. We are the only truly destructive beast. We are at once the greatest blessing and the greatest curse. Equally Blessed and Cursed. Welcome to the human race. It is said, “If you don’t know where you are going then any road will do”. This is so true. What is even more true is that, if you don’t know who you truly are then how can you choose the right road for you? In her song “I’ve never been to me” © Ron Millar 1976, Charlene Oliver sang, “I’ve been to Paradise but I’ve never been to me”. It is so sad and yet how true it is for all too many of us. “…..I’ve never been to me”. This line is so poignant. How many people can honestly say that they have been to themselves or that they have made a sustained effort to go there? How many would even know how to start to go about it? In fact some of us would do anything to avoid confronting, or even being by ourselves. Teenagers in particular seem to be into avoidance on this subject but they are by no means alone in that. Many of us are just uncomfortable with ourselves and would rather curl up and vanish than have to face ourselves. This, of course, is habitual and like all such behaviour it can be unlearned. It is usually the ego and the conditioned ordinary self that are at issue in most cases. When you know and realise who you really are these things will go away. When you experience first hand who you really are then you will never look back. You will have no need to look back or forward for that matter. All you doubts will be gone and with them all your fears.Since the beginning of recorded time and even before it perhaps, people have always wondered about who we really are, where we came from and where we are ultimately going. Some have also wondered what life is all about. This is because we have this almost overwhelming need to know and have meaning in our lives. Is there any sensible meaning to it all? Does there have to be? Our minds are capable of so much more than what we usually use them for. That is part of the reason why we have this longing, which comes from deep within us. It is the part that holds a faint inkling of who we might really be, which hauntingly touches us throughout our lives. This is the part you only have to rediscover and then all is revealed to you. Your life changes fundamentally along with your paradigm. The human race is a life form that is more than capable of the most delicate and sublime love and the most gross and horrific hatred. We can see this all too easily everyday. It makes saints and sinners of us. Once again blessed and cursed in the same instant. However you don’t need to hold any religious beliefs or have any fixed views whatsoever to take and enjoy this very interesting journey. All you need is an open and enquiring mind. In fact you are encouraged to question everything, provided of course that you include your own prejudices. This is interesting but you need to accept that all of us are capable of these powerful and opposing emotions. As Dostoyevsky recognised and said, it is within us all. We can’t be divided into saints and sinners as they are integral parts of each and every one of us and all of us. It’s not that some of us are saints and some are sinners. It’s that we all have a little of both within us. Some have more of one than the other and some make an effort to cultivate one more than the other. Sometimes these traits are seen one after the other and even on occasion simultaneously. We are a fascinating life form after all. Our society tends to try, as only a dualistically based society could, to divide us into saints on one side and sinners on the other. Just look at the press and politicians, its all black and white with them. Politicians like to manipulate the media and play to the populace. They cultivate and jealously guard their public image. Then look behind their public utterances and personas and you will see that saint and sinner co-exist in each of them as it does in us all. They are much the same as we are but they hate to admit it. They are just fellow human beings the same as the rest of us when all is said and done. They do carry a heavy responsibility though. We need to ensure that they perform their duties responsibly and ethically. Also we need to help them to perform their duties fully, properly and diligently. It has been said, “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone”. We have all, on occasion, been saints and on other occasions sinners. Some will never admit to it but deep inside they know it is true. That is their burden. This “madness” is central to the contradiction and dilemma that lies at the heart of who and what we really are. This is the dichotomy that is central to what it means to be human. It is this that has fascinated and captivated us since time immemorial. It is this dichotomy that is central to the human condition and therefore it is key to rediscovering who and what we really and truly are. Many of the ancient peoples throughout the history of the world were aware of, and in tune with, this aspect of our being. Because they were more closely in tune with the land and nature it would appear that in general they didn’t suffer the sort of cognitive dissonance we see in modern societies. All of the greatest artists, writers, philosophers and scientists throughout history have recognised this dichotomy and were in turn fascinated by it. This recognition of the human condition is what makes their work masterful and renders it timeless. Similarly, this is so with many of the ancient monuments that are seen around the World. Since they help all of us to gain an insight into our own dilemma of existence, these timeless masterpieces by the various icons in literature, art, music and the Ancients, have always and will always resonate with us and with all people. It is this that separates these timeless masterpieces from the great works of other gifted people. The great works are recognised for the skill, insight and mastery they convey. The timeless works, as the name suggests, speak directly to us all across time. The themes of Shakespeare’s work are as relevant today as they were when he wrote them. They, and other masterpieces like them, remind us that there is a “place” beyond time that we can go to, if we know how. This manual will help you to learn how to experience that “place” first hand. You only have to remember and rediscover it, as it is your true birth right.Music, in particular, has this ability to move us in a fundamental way. If you want to check this out try looking at your favourite movie with the soundtrack music turned off. It is not the same experience. Even the old silent movies always had a piano to help convey the mood. Music has been referred to as the universal language. It communicates and resonates across all languages, creeds, cultures and ethnicities. It has also been referred to by Mozart, it is assumed, as, “A little piece of heaven on earth”. This timeless resonance is at the heart of this work. Where you want to go is beyond time. All of us, you and me are time bound, however, our ultimate destination and essence is not. You will come to realise and experience that directly. Hopefully you will gain something from reading this that will give you even more motivation, direction and meaning to your own personal quest and seeking. “The truth is out there”, is what the X-files fans will always remember. In fact it is more correct to say, “The truth is IN there”. It is in the deepest recesses of your own mind that you will find it and nowhere else. All that is written of here comes from my own direct personal experience. This is very important. This is not some theoretical or fanciful study. Any human being who is willing to make the effort and stay the course can directly experience all the things outlined here. While it is good and necessary to come to know of these things, it is not sufficient. It is though, very liberating and empowering. It means that we are all capable of making this journey successfully. You do not need to have an incredible IQ or a good education. All you need is to be open and honest with yourself, and to have the patience and determination to stick with the process. These things are simple but they do not come easy. Yet with dedication and forbearance they surely will come.In order to gain mastery of your own mind, you must experience these things first hand yourself. It must be emphasised that you must experience them for yourself. Nothing can change this fact. You can read about it and study it forever. This has only a limited effect and value. Nothing can replace or substitute for your own first hand experience of these things. As the old saying goes, “You can’t teach experience”. You must experience these things directly for yourself. No second hand account, no matter how good, will suffice and that includes the one you are reading now! This is an absolute requirement. There is no way around it and no substitute for it. Then, once you have achieved oneness with your experience, you will find a peace, contentment and insight that you never thought possible. Regardless of your situation in this life you can build a confidence and serenity that is unassailable. A peace of mind that lets you know that you are OK. Enjoy.
