I am an environmental scientist and worked successfully in private practice for more years than I would like to admit! I am now a full time mother to 2 lively kids who put me through a physical and mental workout each day! What time I have left out of being on call 24 hours a day is spent on writing and publishing.
I was inspired to do this by many parents who opened their hearts and minds to me and came to me for advice about their own kids and about helping them get out of a rut in their own personal lives.
There are so many lovely quotes out there, I am just going to share two!
"Anyone can give up, it's the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that's true strength." - Christopher Reeves
"I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I just wish He didn't trust me so much." (Mother Teresa)
Remember you as parent have the power to be the most influential person in your precious childs life. This can seem overwhelming when you are stressed, exhausted, in despair, pressed for time and finances and still trying to juggle everything else you need to deal with day in day out. I have been there!
However what I discovered after struggling for so long was that to be the best role model for your special needs child, you need to also have some of your own personal needs met at an individual.
When I realised this and started to take baby steps till my confidence came back, I found life getting better, becoming less challenging, less stressful and I found myself happier, more content that I had been in ages and I was actually getting time to do what I wanted with my life also. My kids were also benefitting from a "new mom" and responded accordingly!
My relationships and daily actions I take now get me to a very positive place where good things happen more often, my special needs child has improved beyond belief and life is good.
From meeting so many parents over the years in my situation and sharing with them strategies I found that worked, I found that I was able to positively influence and inspire parents of special needs children to start changing their lives and circumstances starting from within. Doing this, they were able to observe other changes in their lives that they were able to bring about.
Making life better is what it is all about and I aim to help others to help themselves first and then allow transformations to occur!
