Mark Gelhaus says that the first half of his life consisted of titles—International Relations Director, Marketing Director, and Physician Relations Manager. Mark began to get a new sense of his purpose when helping patients and their doctors connect with top academic hospitals for specialty care. He knew the same model could be applied between “holistic” care providers and anyone seeking a real sense of “well-being.”
Mark had always been interested in finding cross-disciplinary answers to the biggest questions about advancing our overall health. As he saw a new, holistic perspective emerging, Mark felt his personal and work missions aligning. Inspired by what he envisioned, Mark set a goal to retire after twenty-five years of working and to reinvent himself at that point.
Missing his goal by just one year, Mark spent his twenty-sixth “traditional” year managing real estate investments and becoming a trained and certified life coach. The freedom granted by Mark’s early retirement afforded him the creative grounds for writing this guidebook and for forging a new life path. Now, Mark offers readers the opportunity to follow in his footsteps. The prescribed, trusted process in this book is enriched by the complimentary support of expert advisers and other resources on Mark’s website, www.lifepathadviser.com. The result is a comprehensive, interactive program for creating an enduring and meaningful life path change.
Mark holds a BA in biosocial science and psychology from Coe College, and an MS degree in preventive medicine and environmental health from the University of Iowa. He is an Adler Certified Professional Coach and an Associate Certified Coach of the International Coach Federation. His first job was working with outreach programs to improve the supply of primary physicians in rural Iowa. He then moved to California to work in marketing positions for top ten academic medical centers. He has reinvented himself as a certified life coach and is passionate about encouraging readers of this book to access resources and become part of a community of like-minded persons on his website www.lifepathadviser.com.
Mark lives in Santa Monica, California, where he overlooks the Pacific and contemplates his next travel and life path adventures. When told that he seems to “have it all,” his response is: “You can have it all, too.”
