Biography
My name is Kevin Minney. I have been a Manual Therapist for thirty-three years. I was lead manual therapist for seven years at the Advantage Sports and Orthopedic Rehabilitation clinic. I held the same position for five years at chiropractic clinics.
I have certified with the leaders in the fields of Sports Massage, Post-Rehabilitative Exercise, Postural Rehabilitative exercise, Strain-Counterstrain, Energy Medicine and Osteopathic Manual Therapy.
I was co-chairman of the East Bay Unit of the AMTA and was the Northern California Representative for the AMTA-CA.I work in Alameda, San Francisco, and Santa Clara, Ca.
I have taught Pathology for Massage Therapists live and Anatomy and Physiology on-line at Western Institute for Science and Health in San Francisco.
During the past thirty-three years I have focused on working with pain, injury and accelerating recovery, with my goal to provide the most effective means of recovery for my clients.
Fifteen years ago when I received a demonstration treatment of the Bowenwork, I was so impressed that the first thing I said was, “When and where is the next class?” After five years of practicing and learning Bowenwork I was chosen as one of twelve Instructors for Bowenwork in North America.
I have been asked to present Bowenwork for the AMTA California convention, AMTA units, Kaiser Permanente Physical therapists, Occupational Therapists at Stanford Medical Schools, Restless Leg Support groups, Rotary groups, the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, and church groups, among others.
I look forward to and work toward the acceptance of Bowenwork as a first-choice health care modality around the world.
I teach one of my healing modalities Bowenwork as a professional curriculum of 6 2-day modules leading to a 7th 2-day module for professional certification. I have taught this to Physical Therapists, Massage Therapists, Chiropractors, Acupuncturists, Occupational Therapists, Personal Trainers, and Nurses. I have also taught non-professionals wanting to develop a marketable skill in the healing arts. This same curriculum is taught in 24 countries and practiced in 31.
I also teach Bowenwork in shorter 1/2, 3/4 and one day classes for the general public, parents, seniors, personal trainers, and professional interested in learning a profoundly effective and extremely gentle healing modality.
These classes can be scheduled with me either in Alameda, Ca or around the Us with sufficient student enrollment.
Please look on my website www.kevinminney.com for scheduled classes or to contact me to schedule a future class or get on my email class mailer.
"80% of pain is due to accommodation not injury"- Fred Mitchell D.O., father of Muscle Energy Technique
"If you address the client's problem and it returns, you have either addressed the wrong area or addressed the areas out of sequence."-Ed Stiles D.O. perpetuator of Functional Indirect Technique
We respond to trauma and repetitive stress by accommodating to it. After the first accommodation comes the second, then the third, each robbing movement circulation and comfort. We eventually run out of accommodations and that is when (and where)the body begins to hurt.
We then address the painful area without addressing the string of accomodations that led us there. Without addressing the sequence and in the proper order, the body is stuck. We attack the body and attempt to force it to recover, all the time adding insult to injury. this is why we can have great technique and poor success. If we do not properly assess the pattern of restriction of the body rather than just the pain, we can fail in a way that prolongs suffering and in many cases adds to it.
Why chase pain and "attack" the body if we can work with the body to eliminate the primary cause?
The body's innate healing response may be overwhelmed by chronic stressors, habituated movement and postural patterns, but it is ready at a moment's notice to return to action helping the body relieve pain, restore graceful movement and comfort.
We must provide a balance for forces acting in the body allowing a reduction in the overall level of stimulation. Then a homeopathic dose of kinetic energy, or patterned input can initiate the recovery of free and easy movement and a comfortable life.
Using Osteopathic assessment, Bowenwork and energetic therapy we can assess and address functional restriction and determine proper sequencing of our work. We work in tandem with the body using its intrinsic brilliance and self-regulating capacity in a synergistic way to bring about accelerated recovery, without harsh invasive methods.
Getting started is easy. Take a look at my website, www.kevinminney.com for information and background.
A phone call or email to share information is welcomed. I enjoy working to inform and educate. The point is to arrive at a mutually agreed upon goal for relief and recovery for pain, injury restriction or chronic debilitating issue. This can include a time frame and suggestion for what number of session might be needed.
After the telephone/email conversation is completed the initial session can be scheduled in my offices in Alameda, San Francisco or Santa Clara, California. Additionally, I can schedule distance healing sessions instead.
If the issue is muscular/skeletal there may also be restorative exercise plans included, depending on the specific issues involved. The restorative exercises serve to retrain the neural pathways to provide long-term stability necessary for lasting relief as well as the recovery of strength lost to de-conditioning from chronic misuse and disuse.
After the initial session appointments can be made online at his website.
