In 1972, while practicing the meditation in The Secret of the Golden Flower, JJ Semple activated his Kundalini. He devoted the next twenty years to self-study and research in order to create a safe, practical, repeatable method for permanently activating Kundalini, a method anyone could master.
His book, Deciphering the Golden Flower One Secret at a Time, is an acknowledged companion piece to The Secret of the Golden Flower. It describes how JJ Semple unlocked the sacred book’s secret meditation techniques, allowing him to awaken Kundalini in a benign, scientifically controlled fashion.
His second book, The Backward-Flowing Method: The Secret of Life and Death, takes the subject even further. It provides information on activating the Life Force as well as living with it. What’s more, it situates the Life Force, explaining its relevance to the governing cosmology of Life and Death.
After twenty years of practicing Yoga and meditation on his own, JJ Semple realized his self-reliance had provided him with the knowledge to create a method for self-learners. It's called Golden Flower Meditation, a method every Yoga teacher and meditation instructor should have in their toolkit.

"Kundalini tore me apart, put me back together the right way."
"In the energy continuum, one grasps the metaphysical as effortlessly as the physical."
"I activated Kundalini in the 1970s. Been doing it’s bidding ever since..."
"Deciphering the Golden Flower is to spiritual transcendence as Catcher in the Rye is to finding oneself."
"On a level playing field, experience is more important than knowledge."
"Transcendence requires difficult sacrifices. Think of them as “trade-offs" and you'll feel better about making them."
"A turtle breathes 3 times a minute. The average adult, 15 times. The turtle outlives us by 100s of years. Doesn't that say something about how we ought to be breathing?"
"Fighting addiction is based on behavior modification; Golden Flower Meditation uses sublimation."
"Sit the great mystics from all traditions in one room, they'd dismiss religion."
"Kundalini is included in our bodies for a reason. If it didn't serve a purpose, evolution would have eliminated it."
"The further the spiritual evolution of mankind advances, the more certain I am that the path to genuine religiosity does not lie through the fear of life, or the fear of death, or blind faith, but through striving after rational knowledge and the practice of meditation."
"If we want to evolve, we must rely less on blind faith and more on a scientific approach to metaphysics. in other words, we must apply the scientific method to the invisible, but very real unexplained phenomenon we encounter in our every day lives."
"The more we evolve, the more our path leads away from the fear of death, blind faith, and religiosity, into a controlled, empirical, rational investigation of metaphysical experience."
"The effects induced by Kundalini are akin to those of the near death experience (the NDE)"
Says JJ Semple, “My work is inspired by a variety of teachers, writers and practitioners, including Gopi Krishna, Milarepa, and Lao Tse. I don't have a PhD; I never studied meditation with a well-known teacher. Neither did Gopi Krishna, the man I consulted with, the 20th. Century's foremost writer/researcher on the subject.
"I learned to meditate on my own. Why? Because I found that being on my own let me develop the tools to persevere. I'm talking about the ability to self-monitor and make the necessary adjustments. If you really think about it, success in anything comes from learning to rely on yourself.
“After many years of practicing Yoga and meditation on my own, I realized my self-reliance had provided me with the knowledge to create a method of my own — a method for self-learners. It's called restorative Golden Flower Meditation, a method I learned through extensive study of The Secret of the Golden Flower. I now use it with students all over the world. Every Yoga teacher and meditation instructor should have it in their toolkit.
“Many of my students have previously worked with other teachers, before giving up. Some after studying for many years. They told me they weren't sure what they're supposed to be doing, feeling, or listening for. Eventually they quit.
“I was able to guide them through the entire process, no matter how stuck they were. Working with me allowed them to learn the self-reliance, self-monitoring principles necessary for true success in any walk of life.
“When students tell me, ‘I don't want something to believe in; give me something to DO, something concrete!’ I know just how they feel. They don’t want riddles, word games, or kōans; they want practical guidelines. I give them specific exercises. They learn what to look and listen for as their practice moves forward.
“I don't charge for the method, in fact, I give it away through my publishing company, Life Force Books. My book, Deciphering the Golden Flower One Secret at a Time, describes the method in easy-to-understand, non-technical language.
“The goal of Golden Flower Meditation is to activate the Life Force. The Life Force has many names: sublimation, Kundalini, Tantra, alchemy, Serpent power, primordial energy, cosmic power, Qi, Reiki, or primal spirit. It has many names, but all the names boil down to the Life Force energy present in every human being."
