Author and teacher Jim Dreaver’s message explores the awakening to inner peace and freedom, and what it takes to transform conflict, stress, and suffering into clarity, well-being, and high-level performance.
His journey began in New Zealand, where he was the grandson of one of the first women elected to the Parliament there. He served as an army officer with New Zealand forces in Vietnam in 1967-68, studied English literature and political science at the University of Auckland, and then eventually traveled to the United States, where he attended Palmer College of Chiropractic, graduating with honors in 1976.
After settling in northern California, he built a successful private practice teaching others how to heal and transform their lives from within. In 1983 he embarked on a nine-month spiritual quest through Bali, Nepal, India, and the South Pacific. A year later, when he returned to California, he met Jean Klein, a European master of the direct path to self-realization. Under Jean’s guidance, Jim eventually found the inner peace and freedom he had spent twenty years seeking.
He has published two books focusing on integrating spirituality with everyday life: The Way of Harmony: Walking the Inner Path to Balance, Happiness, and Success (Avon, 1999), and The Ultimate Cure: The Healing Energy Within You (Llewellyn, 1995). He has also written a text for health professionals titled Somatic Technique: A Simplified Method of Releasing Chronically Tight Muscles and Enhancing Mind/Body Awareness (Wild Goose Press, 2001), and has published articles in Yoga Journal, New Realities, and Science of Mind.
His new book, End Your Story, Begin Your Life: The Revolutionary Practice That Sets You Free (Now Books, 2007) is a powerful, life-transforming guide to finding the inner freedom also known as enlightenment, awakening, or self-realization. Available at www.endyourstory.com.
He has facilitated over two hundred seminars and workshops, including teaching at Esalen Institute, and has shared his work with audiences nationwide through numerous radio interviews, book signings, and some television appearances.
Jim lives in Sebastopol, California, where, along with his writing, and his speaking and workshop schedule, he sees people privately, guiding them on the journey of awakening.
Welcome your experience, especially your suffering. It is showing you where you are not yet free.
Honor the past and keep an eye on the future, but have your awareness be right here, right now.
This moment is it! And if you forget that, there is always another moment...!
Awaken to your natural freedom, love, and creative power through this simple three-step practice, derived from the new book by Jim, End Your Story, Begin Your Life (available at www.endyourstory.com): Welcome Your Experience. Whenever upset, conflict, or suffering arises welcome it. It is showing you where you are not free. Remind Yourself That You Are Not Your Story. Behind every contracted emotion, whether it is self-doubt, guilt, anger, jealousy, loneliness, or fear there is always a story, belief, or thought. Remind yourself: “I am not my story... I am the pure awareness that is present right now...” Be Very Present. Now relax, and breathe into the feeling of being aware and present. Notice any residual feelings or emotions, but don’t identify with them. Just be the clear, alert, luminous awareness that you are. Notice how “you” are still very much here, and that you do not need any concepts or stories to define yourself in this moment. In time, as you get freer, you will inevitably inquire into this “me” you take yourself to be.
When you see that it is just a story too—the story-teller—your emotional energy will harmonize, and living will become rich in meaning, love, and purpose. You can then use the power of thought to create what you are passionate about. This is the secret of awakening or enlightenment.
