Climbing the Tourism Ladder
Although he currently makes his home in Switzerland, Gavin Tollman was born in South Africa. He went to the American University to study for a degree in finance, but his familial roots in travel and tourism led him down the same path. He began with a position as Executive Vice President of Buckhead Hotel Management Company in 1987. He took care of all of the hotel’s operations as well as negotiations with third parties. With his keen background in finance, he excelled in assisting third party ownership with debt restructuring during a trying period of financial upheaval in the hotel industry. He later moved to the US division of Trafalgar in 1997 and as its President he managed the American operations. In this initial position at Trafalgar, he was successful in growing the company to be the largest European tour operator working out of the US. After four years he became President of The Travel Corporation in North America, and was responsible for the sales, marketing and everyday operations for Trafalgar, Contiki Holidays, Insight Vacations, AAT Kings in Canada and the US and Destination America.
As the worldwide sales manager for Trafalgar in 2003, Gavin Tollman was not only in charge of the company’s sales, but also product delivery, operations and development. During this period, he was also a non-executive director at Cullinan Holdings Limited and since 2010 he has been a non-executive director at Wilderness Safaris. Currently, as Chairman at The Travel Corporation S.A., he handles the international web strategy of TTC and identifies new business opportunities. As the CEO of Trafalgar, Gavin Tollman is responsible for sales, promotion, development and operations.
