Brief Bio: Tammie Lee Demler, B.S., Pharm.D., M.B.A., BCPP
Tammie Lee Demler is the Director of Pharmacy Services for the Buffalo Psychiatric Center facility within the New York State Office of Mental Health. She additionally serves as the Program Director for the ASHP Accredited Post Doctoral Pharmacy PGY1 and PGY2 Residency Programs at the University of Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr Demler has adjunct pharmacy preceptor appointments at Creighton University, DYouville, St. John Fisher College, Lake Erie School of Osteopathic Medicine School of Pharmacy, UB School of Nursing and Campbell University in North Carolina. Dr Demler has also been a guest lecturer at Buffalo State University School of Social Work.
Media Experience: Tammie Lee has had an ever increasing involvement in the media throughout her professional career. Having started as the "expert guest" on AM and PM Buffalo, as well as news updates and interviews on Channels 2, 4 and 7-Dr Demler was invited to launch her own television show on Time Warner LCTV "WNY tonight with Tammie Lee" for the last 5 years and was promoted to community affairs reporter for Citadel Broadcast Corporation (97 Rock) in 2009. She has been a highly involved expert representative for community media awareness campaigns such as "Be Smart About Antibiotics" and has been a regular freelance contributor to local and national print news.
Having earned her Bachelor of Pharmacy in 1992, Doctorate in 2002 and Masters of Business Administration in 2009, she sought and achieved the designation of board certified psychiatric pharmacist, the highest credential in the practice of psychiatric pharmacy. She is the Director of Pharmacy Services at Buffalo Psychiatric Center and is a member of the New York State Office of Mental Health statewide P+T committee and is Co Chairman of the Buffalo Psychiatric Center Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee (and Drug Utilization Evaluation Committee). Dr. Demler is the Primary Investigator on the Pharmacy Research Team and the Adverse Drug Reaction Team at Buffalo PC. She serves on Buffalo PC’s Accreditation Committee, Medication Error Committee and the Residency Program Committee. Dr. Demler is past President of the Pharmacists’ Society of the State of New York and Chairman of the Pharmacists’ Association of Western New York. She is the second female to have won this statewide election to serve as President of the Professional Organization in 125 years.
She is or has been a member of the American society of Health Systems Pharmacists, the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists, and the American Pharmacists Association. Dr Demler’s community service has included participation as the Erie County Site Staging manager for the Specialized Medical Assistance Response Team (SMART), and organizing the world class Taste of Buffalo as a member of the Board of Directors and Restaurant committee. and has served as host of a weekly live call in television show “WNY Tonight”.
In 2010, Dr. Demler was selected as the recipient of the Christus Super Omnia Award which recognizes alumna of the Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart who have distinguished themselves for professional achievements and contributions to society. She also was named an inaugural rising Star for the Cystic Fibrosis this same year. In 2009, Dr Demler received the both the New York State Bowl of Hygeia and The Orville C Baxter Pharmacy Practice Award from the University of Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. In 2007 she was awarded the Western New York’s 40 under Forty Award. In 2006 she received the National Community Pharmacists’ Leadership Award, Professional Service Recognition-PSSNY, and the McKesson Pharmacy Leadership Award and 2004 New York State Senate Woman of Distinction recognition of her outstanding leadership and service to the pharmacy profession. Dr Demler seeks to be remembered as one who worked to extend the visibility of the Profession of Pharmacy, communicated the most important health needs to the community at large and who has contributed to the reduction of stigma for those with serious mental illness.
