Born in Ottawa and now residing in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, Dominique Hurley is an enthusiastically creative soul whose life purpose is to explore and express her love of beauty and the beauty of love. She does this through painting, photography, writing, dancing, teaching, studying, traveling, and living. She has lived in Germany, the Czech Republic, South Korea and throughout Canada. Each step of her journey has influenced who she is today and the art that she is moved to create. She has also studied and worked extensively in the fields of cultural / arts administration and English as a Second Language education.
Dominique’s artwork has always been rich in symbolism and reaches out to her audience either dimensionally through superimposed canvases and mixed media, or inspirationally through the use of imagery, quotes and empowering messages. Her own source of insight is the dance of Spirit in nature and within the Self – energies which illuminate, transform, move and lead to reflection.
“(A)rt provides fulfillment on many levels. Delving into one’s own creativity, no matter the art form, can lead to all sorts of discoveries. For me, art has provided a medium for aesthetic exploration, an outlet for emotional catharsis, and a platform for personal and spiritual growth.” (Hurley, D. (2009; Nov./Dec.) Creatively Becoming Whole. WHOLife Journal, 15:4, pp.36-37)
Dominique has had solo exhibitions and participated in group shows and craft fairs since the late 1980s. She is a juried member of the Saskatchewan Craft Council (photography) and is currently devoting most of her time to her painting as a student in the University of Saskatchewan’s Certificate of Art and Design (USCAD) program. She already has two certificates in professional photography, one from the New York Institute of Photography and from North Island College in British Columbia.
