David Rogers is a British Occupational Therapist. He has worked in various mental health settings - acute hospitals, rehabilitation units, community, prison - for over 23 years. Helping people improve their functioning is the core philosophy of Occupational Therapy.
David has long advocated "practical self help" (and woo~woo free personal development). He says "Few of us leave childhood with all the personal tools to equip us to succeed in what ever field we choose. Personal development is about developing skills that help you function better"
Communication (assertiveness, confident speaking), confidence building, problem solving, goal setting, will power, positive thinking, improving concentration, self motivation, body language, appearance, relaxation and stress management are a few skills that David has helped others with. But he is a strong believer that keeping our self esteem high is crucial to achievement and success.
David writes a successful blog - "How to Have Great Self Confidence and Self Esteem." and newsletter.
"Don't aim at success - the more you aim at it and make it a target, the more you are going to miss it. For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue as the unintended side effect of one's personal dedication to a course greater than oneself." Viktor Frankl
"Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and, above all, confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something, and this thing, at whatever cost, must be atttained." Marie Curie
"Low self esteem is like driving through life with your hand break on." Dr Maxwell Maltz
"The important thing in life is to have a great aim and to possess the aptitude and the perseverance to attain it." Goethe
"We make a life by what we get, but make a life by what we give." Winston Churchill
"If rejection destroys your self esteem, you're letting others hold you as an emotional hostage." Brian Tracy
"Self esteem is as necessary to the spirit as food is to the body" Dr Maxwell Maltz

My philosophy and training is based around practical self help. Whilst I use and suggest techniques such as positive thinking, affirmations and visualisation I don't believe in any "Law of Attraction" - see Do You Believe in Fairies...
