Early in my career, as a Family Physician I found that the majority of patients with unpleasant and sometimes frightening symptoms had no specific disease but were suffering from anxiety and tension resulting from a wide variety of stresses.
Helping patients manage stress became a major part of my family medical practice. It began by teaching relaxation techniques and developed handouts and booklets to assist patients with recognizing and managing the stress in their lives.
As stress in society increases, the demand for education and information has grown.
I have written a number of books:
"Stressed Out", "Taking Control of Student Stress", "Winning your Battle with Stress", "The Stress of Working", "The Stress of Nursing", "Getting Older", "Growing Stronger" , "How to be a Life Winner" as well as CD programs on Relaxation, Weight Loss, Smoking Cessation and Sleep and Stress.
I also am a contributor for magazine, newspaper and radio stories and wrote a weekly newspaper feature column for a number of years.
Through StressWinner.com we provide access to a wealth of Stress Management resources that assist individuals and organizations to recognize and manage stress related concerns more effectively.
A 1968 graduate of the Welsh National School of Medicine. I have been a Family physician in Kitchener/Waterloo, Ontario since 1971 and is I am also an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Practice of University of Western Ontario and a Fellow of The American Institute of Stress.
