What are we if not for our experiences in life?
What sorts of things have you experienced in your career that have helped you grow and become more in tune to yourself, your interests, your skills and your career goals?
A friend of mine recently got laid off for the first time in his career and also for the first time in his career, he wasn’t able to simply get a new right away. That’s a learning experience and he’s recognized that things don’t always come easy even if they have in the past.
What sorts of things have I experienced in my career that have helped me learn and grow? Among other things, I:
1. Know what it’s like to work internationally, having worked overseas (in New Zealand) for 4 years.
2. Have survived several corporate downsizings while many of my colleagues were being laid off.
3. Have experienced being laid off twice myself during corporate downsizings.
4. Know what it’s like to be self-employed.
5. Have helped many people find better jobs.
6. Have observed people lose jobs at every step of the job search process and most of the time they didn’t even know where they’d lost the job until I told them.
7. Have written numerous articles on job searching and career management.
8. Wrote an ebook for career-minded individuals called Recruiter Secrets Revealed.
It's better to look for a new job when you already have a job.
